Gov. Kay Ivey appointed John Young as Marshall County’s new County Commission chairman. Young is the retired chief investigator of the District Attorney’s office, a former deputy sheriff and the former president of a tech company. He has been serving as the assistant chief deputy in the sheriff’s office for the last year and a half. He brings a wealth of experience to his new position, and, more importantly, amazing interpersonal skills. He knows a lot of people across the county, and he is well liked by most. He said he plans to take a hard look at county infrastructure, especially the Courthouse and its auxiliary buildings, and learn as much as he can in the days following his appointment. He will be sworn in on Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the Commission chamber on the 3rd floor of the Courthouse. Young said it is an honor to follow David Reed as chairman. “We didn’t get to see all he was going to do and bring to the county,” he said.
