The main entrance to Hug Point is closed right now after winter storm damage, but it is reachable through Arcadia Beach during a minus tide. The name comes from the fact that stagecoaches once had to hug the rocky cliff just to get around the point without being overtaken by the tide. Around the 1910s, workers blasted through the headland to carve out the road you can still walk on today. Standing on that ledge with the ocean right below you, it is not hard to imagine what that journey looked like.
