The Archer County News is looking for a self-motivated Sports Reporter to join our team in Archer City. A qualified candidate should have reliable transportation, strong communication skills and a willingness to learn.
The Archer County News covers the municipalities of Archer City, Holliday, Lakeside City, Megargel, Scotland and Windthorst as well Archer City ISD, Holliday ISD and Windthorst ISD. The publication produces 51 editions and five special sections annually.
Other responsibilities include:
· Covering the sporting events and athletes of the three county high schools.
· Helping the editorial team cover and report on city council and school board meetings as needed.
· Helping produce sporting special sections at the start of the fall and spring sporting seasons. As well as whenever a team wins a state title.
· Taking photos of county events as needed.
· Proofreading the paper and checking advertisements for correct information.
· Answering phones and helping with other office tasks as needed.
We are looking for a college graduate with a knowledge of AP style, the ability to meet deadlines and knowledge of Adobe suite or someone with at least two years of journalism experience. Experience with a camera is preferred.
This position will be paid based off experience with opportunities to grow within the organization. The position also comes with PTO, paid holidays and expense reimbursement.

Following a workshop on the tax implications of proposed data center and Battery Energy Storage System projects in Archer County, the Archer County Commissioners Court held a public question-and-answer session Thursday, May 21, drawing nearly 50 residents concerned about the future of their communities.

The meeting lasted more than 45 minutes and centered on concerns about traffic, noise, light pollution, property values, water usage and the county’s legal authority to stop or regulate the projects.

On Thursday, May 21, the Archer County Commissioner’s Court held a workshop on the tax implications of proposed industrial projects like the Google Data Center and Vesper BESS Project with a group of more than 50 residents on hand.
Commissioner Precinct 1 Wade Scarbrough said he requested the workshop because the court does not fully understand how the data center’s value could affect the county tax rate.
The workshop concluded with a 45-minute public question-and-answer session. A recap of that session is posted below.
