Holliday High School was named the Lone Star Cup champion for the second year in a row following another fantastic year in academics and athletics for the 2024-2025 school year.
“It’s just a tremendous honor,’ Holliday Superintendent Cody Carroll said about the school winning back-to-back cups. “It’s a reward to all the hard work that was put into giving our kids the opportunity to be successful. Coaches, directors, UIL academic sponsors, everybody had a piece in this.”

The Archer County News was recently recognized with five awards, including two first place finishes, during the 2024 Texas Press Association’s Texas Better Newspaper Contest at the TPA Conference.

The Archer County News was recently recognized with five awards, including two first place finishes, during the 2024 Texas Press Association’s Texas Better Newspaper Contest at the TPA Conference. Awards were presented at the TPA Convention and Trade Show in Denton on Saturday, June 21.

This year saw numerous stellar athletes take the diamond. Along with these 12, several other players could’ve very easily been on the list. This team, and the rest of the athletes in the county should be more than proud of their accomplishments this season.

Archer County has a history of incredible baseball teams, and the 24-25 season was no different. All three county teams made the playoffs, with one even going four rounds deep. It’s almost cliché, but making this year’s Softball Diamond Dozen was as tough as any previous years. When six different athletes put up over 40 hits and four different athletes put up over 40 RBIs, while fielding percentages are as high as ever, it’s impossible to include everyone. But these players, along with the ones who just missed the cut, should be more than proud of what they were able to accomplish this season.

Another year, another successful season on the softball diamond for the three county high school squads. Archer City, Holliday, and Windthorst all secured a spot in the playoffs, will all three even winning in the Bi-District round.
