"The first semester of my freshman year, I never went into the DC without someone with me. The days nobody could eat with me, I would skip meals or burn through my flex money.

The stigma of sitting by myself was just too unbearable. And I know it wasn’t just me, either.

Everyone at Bethel has had that experience where somebody asks to sit with you in the Dining Center, and you can tell it’s just because they don’t want to sit alone. But you don’t want to sit by yourself either, if you’re completely honest with yourself."

The Bethel University Journalism major and minor have been discontinued beginning the 2026-27 school year due to a lack of enrollment and changes in faculty. The Bethel University student newspaper, The Clarion, has not yet been cut, although its future is unknown given the changes in the major. "Growing up where I’m from is not as hard as it sounds.

As a kid, I was always tasked with the job of waking all my siblings up, getting them dressed for school and gathered at the bus stop.

One day, as my siblings and I were heading to school, we took a different route. We were walking when a porch full of gang members asked, “Aye, you shorty, where you from?” We all ran. Where I’m from, the South Side of Chicago, that question is something you don’t want to answer. One member finally caught hold of my little brother’s shirt and repeated the question.

“I said, where you from?” "

While getting dinner with my family at one of our favorite restaurants, I noticed a young family sitting together at a small table. The children stared at iPads bigger than their heads, silently tapping on the bright screens with ketchup-covered fingers as their parents fed them chicken tenders." At the beginning of last fall, Bethel's Catholic Student Association had four regular attenders. Now they have about 20. The students meet during community time on Fridays and discuss different topics about faith, theology and Catholicism. "I sat in the front row on the far left side of my Story in Modern America class around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 10.

Our professor, who’s likely to be reading this, was valiantly trying to drive class engagement in our literary discussion. Instead, our class was distracted by the national news unfolding before us.

Student body vice president Nate Holder, seated to my left, leaned over to me.

“You know Charlie Kirk?” Nate asked.

I replied affirmatively, and I was certain the next thing I heard was either a prank or a misunderstanding of a news story on Nate’s part.

“He just got shot.”"

Freshman setter .rubio4 has taken the unexpected position of starting setter in stride and leads the MIAC in Overall Assist Stats. She, along with the No. 4 seed Bethel Volleyball team, is hosting No. 5 seed St Catherine University in the Quarterfinals Match of the MIAC Playoffs. The game is at 7pm in the Robertson Center gym.
