40 hours of driving.

Oneonta, Alabama to Arkansas City, Kansas.

The radio never even turned on.

I think deep down my Dad and I wanted to soak up this opportunity. Because the truth (we both know) is, you never know when the last one is going to be.

“Just like old times” I would hear him say.

We would ride for miles and miles without speaking a word. Until one of my stupid dad jokes would crack the silence and we’d burst into laughter.

We’ve spent countless days of our lives together in vehicles going all over the country.

Just driving together.

time slows down here. and I figured it was a good time to go back to some Kodak Gold 200.

no wifi. no traffic. no noise. just appliances humming full with comfort food.

it’s quiet. the kind of quiet that makes people uncomfortable nowadays.

it’s one of the few places where I still feel like a kid when I show up. not much has changed in 30 years of visiting them in this same house.

same carport. same dining room. same ford truck that was my great grandfathers (only has 50,000 miles on it).

in a world that changes by the minute, the value of this place is becoming immeasurable.

out of respect, I didn’t feel like it was okay to post photographs of them or the inside of their house. I’ll keep those tucked away for the future.
