For the first time in my life, it genuinely doesn’t feel like the World Cup has started.
Normally, when the World Cup begins, the whole world feels different. Streets get louder, flags appear everywhere, people argue about lineups, families gather around screens, and even people who barely watch football suddenly have an opinion.
But this time, the energy feels missing.
Instead of football taking over the world, politics, war, fear, and chaos are dominating every headline. The tournament has started, but the feeling has not arrived with it.
This should have been a moment for fans to breathe, celebrate, and feel connected through the game. Instead, everything feels heavy. The joy feels muted. The excitement feels distracted. The world feels too tense to properly enjoy the biggest sporting event on earth.
So yes, the World Cup may have officially started.
But emotionally, it doesn’t feel like it.
Thank you, Trump, for making even football feel like background noise.
