Natalie Shelton is a 2025 Dexter High School graduate. Throughout high school she dedicated herself academically and athletically, specifically to track and field where she specialized in throwing events. “I knew my hard work had been paying off when I broke two school records in discus and shot put.”
Outside of sports she discovered a passion for photography, which not only became something she enjoyed but also earned her a scholarship to support her higher education goals. Shelton earned a books and tuition scholarship in Mass Communications, at the Humanities and Communications Day in fall 2024. “I would like to give a mention to my Digital Media and Yearbook teacher, Chelsea Taylor, not just a teacher but a friend as well. I am absolutely so grateful to have a teacher that supported me and pushed me to continue my education with photography. Thank you Cowley Tigers for accepting me into your community. Go Tigers!”

🌍✨ : Day 3! ✨🌍

At Cowley College, we’re proud to have passionate faculty advisors who inspire and guide our students every step of the way. Today, we’re shining the spotlight on:

🎥 Faculty Advisor Spotlight: Meg Smith (Director of Mass Communications) 📰

Meg Smith brings a dynamic blend of academic excellence and real-world media experience to Cowley students. Since joining us in 2007, she’s helped aspiring journalists, filmmakers, editors, photographers, and media professionals grow their skills—and their confidence.

📣 “I appreciate the energy in the classroom and watching students learn to apply what they are learning in real-world opportunities,” she says.

Before Cowley, Meg taught at Emporia State University, the University of Washington, and Pierce College in Washington state. Her students have gone on to successful careers in broadcasting, marketing, PR, social media, and event planning—including one who recently earned a Heartland Emmy! 🏆🎬

Meg holds:
🎓 B.A. – Liberal Studies, University of Washington
🎓 M.M. – Educational Technology, Pepperdine University

She’s also an active community leader—serving on the Ark City Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Board (Chair) and Burford Arts Board, where she helped bring the Bison Film Festival to life.

A member of Kansas Collegiate Media and the Kansas Association of Broadcasters, Smith continues to shape the future of storytelling—one student at a time. 🎙️🎞️

Mark your calendar and text your friends in preparation for Cowley Act One's production of John Proctor is the Villain.

Cowley Theatre & Act One Drama Club are thrilled to announce the cast of this year's final production:

JOHN PROCTOR IS THE VILLAIN
by Kimberly Belflower
directed by Emily Rose Parman.

Performances will run May 1-3, 2025 with all performances at 7:30pm.

We are so excited to present this gripping contemporary drama:

"At a high school in a one-stoplight town in Georgia, an English class is studying The Crucible but the students are more preoccupied with navigating young love, s*x ed, and a few school scandals. As the students delve into the American classic, they begin to question the play’s perspective and the validity of naming John Proctor the show’s hero. With deep wells of passion and biting humor, this comedy captures a generation mid-transformation, running on pop music, optimism, and fury, discovering that their future is not bound by the past and that they have the power to change it all."

Tickets go on sale soon! Watch this space for more information.

JOHN PROCTOR IS THE VILLAIN is presented by special arrangement with Broadway Licensing, LLC, servicing the Dramatists Play Service collection. www.dramatists.com

Meet Daisy Bates...

Daisy Bates dedicated her life to ending racial injustice. She served as the President of the Arkansas chapter of the NAACP and organized the Little Rock Nine's integration into school. Because of her work, the third Monday in February was proclaimed by Arkansas as Daisy Gatson Bates Day. In 1999, she was posthumously awarded the Medal of Freedom, and in 2024, a statue of Bates was added to the US capitol.

Meet Clara Barton...

Clarissa “Clara” Harlowe Barton founded the American Red Cross. She started off distributing needed supplies to the Union Army during the Civil War and was known as the “angel of the battlefield.” Also, Barton helped establish the National First Aid Association of America while supporting women's suffrage. Her home later became a historic sight and was the first dedicated to the achievements of a woman.
