The Lakeside Life - Smith Lake Alabama Smith Lake Alabama | Lewis Smith Lake - magazine, local & travel info, social media +++ A hikers delight! Join us!

An authentic, heartfelt, and upscale take on Lewis Smith Lake, nestled in north Alabama between 3 counties: Cullman, Walker and Winston. Although it was the dream of our founder, for over 15 years prior, the actual magazine, blog, social media and e-commerce started in the fall of 2017 on the shores of our home lake—“Smith Lake”—a gorgeous man-made recreational reservoir. Smith Lake is celebrated

for its scenery, wildlife, fishing, watersports activities, general recreation, gorgeous homes, unparalleled clean deep emerald green water, and over 500 miles of incredible shorelines—some softly tapering to the water, others rise high above the water on natural dramatic rock bluffs or on beaches of tumbled rock, boulders or soft sands. A large part of its shoreline is crowned by Bankhead National Forest nestled within the Sipsey Wilderness–aka “The Land of a Thousand Waterfalls”–full of natural springs, clear creeks, and interesting terrain. The beauty in the Smith Lake area simply must be experienced to understand, it is incomparable, and words fail to do it justice. Our company goal is very simple–to showcase our unique lake community and the lifestyle of those who work, live and visit our resort area. This magazine is a labor of love for our community, a love letter to a place cherished deeply. Our founder’s mission is straight from the heart “I want to give back, from my heart, to this place, Smith Lake, that I love so much. It continues to be a place of refuge and restoration for my family–saving us through some deeply painful times, life tragedies, and difficult health issues–simply by being this very magical healing place that it is. We want the world to know how special Smith Lake is to everyone who is blessed enough to absorb its beauty, experience its carthatic power, and sense its soul. We promise you it is a place you will never forget, it will call you back again and again. Once it has a hold on you, it will never let go.” - Syndi Hanna, Founder. This magazine is for the community, and we love nothing more than when the community gets fully involved in all the content we bring forward. Feel free to offer us your stories, photographs, ideas, advice, and thoughts to share so that we can collectively paint a portrait of southern lake living at its best.

IN SPACE: Comet Lemmon is currently low on the northwest horizon after sunset between the bright star Arcturus and the handle of the Big Dipper. It is expected to continue brightening as draws closer to Earth through mid next week.

This comet was discovered by the Mount Lemmon Survey (Tucson, Arizona) in images obtained on January 3, 2025. It is expected to continue to brighten as it approaches perihelion (closest approach to the Sun) on November 8, 2025. If it survives this visit through the solar system, it will next pass through in 1,336 years.

You really need binoculars or a telescope to see it clearly.

A local holiday MUST DO experience! German tradition meets Southern hospitality each year at the Cullman Christkindlmarkt. Depot Park comes to life brilliantly with events like: lighting of the famous German Christmas pyramid “Weihnachtspyramide,” the Christmas parade, and the park’s elaborate Christmas tree lighting. After those events, each weekend during the holiday season the park is busy and alive with thousands of visitors shopping many unique vendors, and enjoying fun things like: ice skating, a Christmas carousel, the Christkindl Express train, live performances, food, fun +++. So much to do! A favorite annual Cullman area celebration you simply cannot miss.

The lake area is beautiful in all seasons. Book an Airbnb on the lake and enjoy serene scenery all day then drive in for this exciting holiday experience during the weekend. It doesn’t seem possible but every year it just gets better and better!

Important details and event calendar can be found on the website, and will be unveiled on social media too. Check out the site: https://www.cullmanchristkindlmarkt.com
