# Facebook Post β€” Palisade Trail, Labor Day Weekend

---

πŸ₯ΎπŸŒ„ **Labor Day weekend done RIGHT β€” and the Palisade Trail delivered in every possible way.** πŸŒ„πŸ₯Ύ

We set off with the **Thomson crew** for what turned out to be one of those hikes you talk about long after your legs have recovered. πŸ˜„

---

**The Palisade Trail** did not hold back. We're talking:

⛰️ **Two breathtaking viewpoints** β€” and we mean breathtaking in both senses. The views AND the elevation will have you working for it. πŸ˜…
πŸ“ˆ **Plenty of elevation gain** β€” this is not a casual stroll and we are here for it
🐾 **One very happy trail dog** β€” Lily was absolutely in her element, leading the charge the entire way like she had somewhere important to be

Watching her bound up that trail with zero hesitation is one of our favorite things in this world. She is built for this life and she knows it. πŸΎπŸ’™

Two viewpoints. Epic elevation. Great company. That's a Labor Day weekend we won't forget anytime soon.

Washington, you keep raising the bar. πŸŒ²πŸ”οΈ

πŸ„πŸ’™ **Squeezing every last drop out of Post Falls before hitting the road β€” and we think we nailed it.** πŸ’™πŸ„

When you know a chapter is wrapping up, you say yes to everything. And that's exactly what we did. πŸ™Œ

---

**Paddleboarding at Q Park with the Thomson Family** πŸ„β€β™€οΈ

What a way to spend a day. We hit **Q Park** with the Thomson family for a paddleboarding session and it was an absolute blast. The water, the laughs, the inevitable wobbles β€” perfect summer afternoon energy. πŸ’¦β˜€οΈ

---

**Mini Golf with Mom** β›³

Competitive? Us? Always. Mini golf with Mom was exactly as fun as it sounds and we are not disclosing the final scores. πŸ˜„β›³

---

**One Last Visit to Eats on Spokane Street** 🍽️

We had to get one final visit in at **Eats on Spokane Street** β€” a Post Falls staple for us at this point. Some places just deserve a proper goodbye. 🀍

---

**2 Game Nights + Morning Coffee** πŸŽ²β˜•

Two game nights with friends, because once is never enough. And slow morning coffees that reminded us to just be present and soak it all in before the road calls again. β˜•πŸ€

---

It wasn't all fun and games though β€” heading into Coeur d'Alene we were reminded of the very real impact of fire season when we passed a **burnt car and motorcycle on a trailer.** A sobering moment that puts so much into perspective. Our hearts go out to anyone affected by the fires in this region. πŸ™

---

Post Falls, you have been so good to us. The family time, the friends, the trails, the water β€” we are leaving full in the very best way. πŸ’™

Saturday: Centennial Trail β†’ CDA + Bardenay πŸš΄β˜€οΈ
We knew smoke was coming so we set out early to get ahead of it β€” and the strategy paid off perfectly. The trail toward Coeur d’Alene was stunning in the morning light and we had the best ride.
We stopped at Bardenay for a well-earned meal and cocktails on the patio. 🍹 Great food, great atmosphere β€” exactly the kind of stop that turns a good ride into a great day.
And then… the smoke had other plans. πŸ˜… It rolled in on the way home and didn’t let up for the rest of the weekend.
Sunday became a full inside day β€” we channeled the energy into some long overdue β€œspring” cleaning. ☁️🧹 In quotes because yes, we are fully aware of the calendar. Better late than never, right?
Not every weekend can be all adventure β€” sometimes the smoke makes the decision for you and you just lean in. πŸ˜„
But that Saturday ride? Absolutely worth it. πŸ™Œ

🌲😀 The smoke cleared, the winds cooperated, and we wasted absolutely no time getting outside. 🌲
If you’ve been following along you know the air quality has been a challenge lately β€” so when we got a beautiful week we grabbed it with both hands. Idaho delivered and we are so happy to be out in it. πŸ™Œ
Wednesday: CDA 5th Street Farmers Market 🌻
Post-gym we headed over to the CDA 5th Street Farmers Market for a Wednesday night wander. There is something about a farmers market in the evening light that just feels like summer done right. Great vendors, great vibes β€” a perfect midweek reset. πŸ›οΈ
Saturday: Centennial Trail β†’ Spokane + River Picnic 🚴🌊
We hit the Centennial Trail again β€” but this time we headed toward Spokane instead, and what a gorgeous direction to go. The route along the river is absolutely beautiful and we loved seeing a new stretch of it.
We rode with Mom and friends which made it even better, and stopped for a picnic lunch along the river β€” honestly one of those simple, perfect moments. Good people, good food, stunning scenery. πŸ§Ίβ˜€οΈ
And of course Lily could not resist β€” she spotted that river and went straight in for a swim. πŸΎπŸ’¦ No hesitation whatsoever. She is truly living her best Pacific Northwest life.

Captains Log: Smoke, Fires and Fun

We missed a post last week, so we’ll get twice the fun in this one.

Really enjoying Idaho, except for this dang wildfire smoke. First Canada tried to sage the evil out of the US, and now Washington decided to go up in flames! We’re within 20 miles of the Spokane fires and the smoke is just terrible β€” hazardous breathing conditions.

Loving mom’s backyard! We’ve been playing games, watching movies, taking neighborhood walks, and cooking great food. No bugs, no humidity, and warm temps!
Last weekend we scoped out the local farmers markets β€” it’s prime time for all the amazing fruit here. Also went to a Travis Tritt concert in the VIP section, thanks to our friends and neighbors John and Regina, who are such amazing people. He made the event extra special for veterans, and gotta say he still puts out great music even after 40 years.
This past weekend we hit the local rodeo β€” just down-home ’Murica right there.

The highlight of our trip so far has been Potlatch and the Handcar Tours! We rode these custom-made handcars that seat 3 people, for about 8 miles. The driver could push a little green button and let the electric motor take over, but if you wanted to go faster, you had to put in the work yourself! It was surreal, beautiful scenery, and a fantastic time all around. Thank you, mom!

Captains Log: Smoke, Surf, and a Super Bird

Mom's backyard has a heck of a view β€” minus the occasional train reminding us we're not actually that far off the tracks. Literally.

Then Canada decided to send us a gift we did not ask for: wildfire smoke so thick it turned our sky into an apocalypse movie. Got a 12 hour before-and-after picture and it's genuinely insane β€” camera doesn't even do it justice. It got bad enough you couldn't see past the fence.

Saturday we shook it off and went adventuring β€” hit the Hayden Farmers Market then rolled over to Rathdrum Days. Lily was in full celebrity mode, working the crowd for treats and petting like she owns the place. They also had a car show and I'm not exaggerating when I say I have never in my life seen a Plymouth Superbird in person until now. Absolute unicorn. Shasta meanwhile was over in a corner having a full moment with the old Toyota Land Cruisers.

Yesterday was LAKE DAY at Coeur d'Alene courtesy of mom's friends Lee and Stu and their surf boat. And listen β€” I think I found my sport. Turns out surfing is drastically easier on a bad back than literally anything else I've tried. Got up on the first try AND managed to let go of the rope like an actual functioning athlete. Mom was out there giving it everything and got SO close to standing β€” zero doubt in my mind she's got it next time. Closed the day out on the tube with mom and Shasta, which is exactly the kind of chaos a lake day should end with.

Great food, great people, great family.
LOLA. 🌊

Captains Log: Posted up in Post Falls

South Dakota, you were good to us, but it was time to hit the road. Spent the last week playing beat-the-clock β€” squeezing in the rest of Rapid City while prepping for a 900 mile haul to Idaho. No pressure.

Saturday and Sunday turned into an absolute marathon. The Admiral got some seat time and we powered through some seriously spectacular country β€” rolling hills, mountains, trees for days, and more deer than we could count. Rolled through Billings at 111. And here's the kicker β€” you look up and there's still snow sitting on the mountain tops like it's not even bothered by any of this. Montana really said "hold my b**r." Then we hit Big Timber, Montana for our overnight to set up camp and the thermometer was still at 108.

The coach was a cozy 98 degrees inside, cozy for mom (Vic) maybe…. We fought that thing for hours trying to cool down, and then like magic, by late evening we're sitting pretty in the 60's. Hopped in the hot tub on our private patio and watched Argentina pull off the win. We are fully hooked on soccer this year thanks to my buddy Johann. Seeing someone else’s passion for his sport made us tune in!

Big B***y Bertha handled the miles like an absolute unit, only real hiccup was the tires running hot under all that sun and pressure Saturday. Pepper, on the other hand, did NOT handle it. Two long travel days and she made SURE we knew about it β€” full meow-howl combo, read us the bible cover to cover from the back seat. I briefly considered pulling over and rehoming her in the rig for the rest of the trip, but between the heat and the bounce, that felt like a one-way ticket to bad-cat-dad jail. So we all powered through together.

Finally rolled into Post Falls and tucked the rig right into mom's backyard. Lily is straight up living her best life β€” running with her "wookie" Irish Setter cousins, endless green grass, and walks for days. Feels like coming home and we are here for it.

Word on the street is we're lake-bound this weekend. πŸ‘€

One last thing for my fellow trailering folks β€” stop putting off the maintenance on your rigs. It is always, ALWAYS something.

Captains Log: Ready to leave South Dakota and get to Post Falls! 😎😍πŸ₯³

This is our last week here, so we got a couple adventures in after work.

Big B***y Bertha earned her stripes on the Needles Highway. We're talking about an inch of clearance on each side β€” no exaggeration, no room for driver error. She made it through like a champ.

Lily and I knocked out an exuberant 6 mile hike on the Flume trail, right from our own park.

After work one evening we took a drive around the Custer State Park wildlife loop and it did not disappoint. Antelope, prairie dogs, and then the real show β€” a massive herd of buffalo, babies included. You don't just see a herd that size, you hear it, feel it, smell it.

Tuesday night we made the drive over to Mt. Rushmore hoping to catch it lit up, but no luck. Instead we got front row seats to some seriously wild lightning and storm clouds rolling through. Looked like the presidents were crying up there.

Spent the last two days elbow deep in trailer prep for the haul to Post Falls β€” bearings repacked, bolts greased, all the stuff that's been on the list for months. Felt like being back in the driveway working on my car again. Wasn't about to cross Montana and Idaho mountains without doing it right.

And then last night, because of course, I'm out there trying to cook dinner on the Blackstone when a hail and lightning storm decides it wants to blow me clean off the griddle. πŸ˜‚

South Dakota, you kept things interesting.
