Balance first. Dress last. That’s the textbook approach — and Grinding Doc Jeffrey Badger explains why it still holds up.
Truing the wheel corrects its geometry for any imbalance, even if it makes the wheel a little “eggy.” Rebalancing afterward? That just undoes the correction.
Most of the time, it doesn’t matter much. But when you’re grinding small-diameter tools, it can make all the difference.
