State Superintendent Wants a List to Check Twice—Who’s Homeschooling, Who’s Not

The state of Michigan has seen a drop in enrollment at public schools by about 50,000 students. The state superintendent wants to know what these students are doing. Michigan homeschoolers should learn more about this at https://hslda.org/post/state-superintendent-wants-a-list-to-check-twice-who-s-homeschooling-who-s-not.

Michigan advocates are joining HSLDA in asking the state public school superintendent to focus on public school issues—and to abandon a proposal for a “registry” of homeschoolers.

Here is an encouraging story from generations.org.

Massachusetts Worldview family blesses their garbage man

And finally, in response to my Generations Radio Family Christmas Project Challenge on December 8th, I received an email from Andrew and Lina Kosko in Watertown, Massachusetts.

Out of the 8 ideas I suggested as a way to draw closer to one another and closer to Christ, their family decided to make brownies for their garbage man.

Miah, their 13-year-old daughter, created the culinary delight.

MIAH: “When my mom brought up the idea about giving brownies to the garbage man for the Christmas Family project, I thought it was a very kind thing to do. We baked triple chocolate brownies Wednesday night to give to the garbage man on Thursday morning.”

Emily, their 8-year-old, flagged down the garbage man by standing on the curb, waving her arm.

EMILY: “When I gave the brownies to the garbage man, um, I actually had to raise my hand so he could see me because the truck was really big. And, um, he actually came and then we took a little picture. We gave him the brownies and a card that we helped my mom make.”

Emily described the reaction of the garbage man.

EMILY: “Our garbage man was really surprised when we handed him the brownies.”

Mrs. Kosko talked about the card they made as a family.

LINA: “We made a card as a thank you for the garbage man, saying, ’Thank you for all your hard work this year.’ And we quoted Isaiah 9:6.”

Included in the card was a tract entitled “The Shocking Truth,” published by the Fellowship Tract League.

In her initial email to me, Mrs. Kosko wrote, “We pray the Lord uses this for His kingdom.”

Amen! And if your family accepts the Christmas Family Project Challenge, email me your name, city and state, names of your kids, and your phone number. Send it to [email protected]. I might be calling your family for an interview on our newscast.

Conference Meets the Moment as Global Crisis Highlights Homeschooling

HSLDA recently participated in a international home education conference, which focused on homeschooling in the time of the COVID pandemic. Read about it at https://hslda.org/post/conference-meets-the-moment-as-global-crisis-highlights-homeschooling.

Homeschool leaders from around the globe gathered virtually to share how homeschooling has filled a need during the COVID-19 pandemic—and how it can benefit families moving forward.

I have the CLASS lesson planner and curriculum for both 4th and 7th grade. Do you by any chance sell the lesson plans already completed? This is something I really wanted in a curriculum but apparently failed to realize I had to write our own with this one. I work more than full time for a church and my husband works full time. I need some help with lesson planning to make this successful for us.
One more pitch! I still need 4 interviewees. We can do this virtually! Hello parents! My name is Lisa McGuire, and I am a doctoral candidate under the direction of Professor Roselyn Polk in the College of Doctoral Studies at Grand Canyon University. I can be reached at 660-998-3533, or [email protected]. I have homeschooled for 13 years. Right now, I am pursuing a PhD. My study examines how parents use technology in homeschooling. I also want to see how technology affects their satisfaction. I am seeking participants for my study who meet these criteria: • Over 18 years old • Homeschool their kids, pre-K through 12 • Are decision makers about home school choices • Live in Central Midwestern region You cannot be included in this study if: • You are under 18 years old • Do not home school, or do not make decisions about home schooling • Live outside the Central Midwestern region The activities for this study will include: • Taking a short survey about teaching and a short questionnaire about homeschool decisions. This will be done through Survey Monkey and will take about 15-20 minutes. • You can volunteer to be interviewed, or be in a focus group, which will take another 45 minutes, and can also be done online. • Your participation would be completely voluntary. All data would be kept private. Nothing identifying used within the analysis. If you’re willing to participate, please go to the following address: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/QF55ZX9 If you want to ask me any questions about the process, please don’t hesitate to ask!

Are the dates available for the used homeschooling book sale yet? Usually its April/May. Each year I have a very hard time finding the dates for this sale. Thanks!
I have some questions about the CLASS program. We just finished the CAT testing process with you all and are now researching the curriculum. Here are my questions. I already own the math (Saxon) and science (Apologia) books that we will be using with my son. We will have to purchase the English, history, Bible and any other books that we will need. Besides the cost of curriculum, what else will I be paying for? I've read what I'm supposed to "get" on this page https://www.shopchristianliberty.com/home-school-program/ but I'd like to hear from some users what you feel you are getting and how the CLASS program helps you homeschool. I've been homeschooling 7 years on my own. I'm looking into CLASS to provide accountability and tracking. But I'm really wondering if it's worth the $700-$900. Also, what's the difference between the 10th grade "Class Plan Enrollment" ($650 on sale now here https://www.shopchristianliberty.com/grade-10-class-plan-enrollment/#reviews ) and the "Class Plan Basic College Prep" ($875 on sale now here https://www.shopchristianliberty.com/grade-10-class-plan-enrollment-basic-college-prep/ )? Is the "Class Plan Enrollment" not a college prep? Are seniors accepted to college when they have only done the "Class Plan Enrollment"? Or do you receive enough credits in the "Class Plan Enrollment" to go to most colleges?
