Kindergartner Misses Zoom Class, Gets Home Visit

The current virus situation and the resulting closure of most schools is causing some to consider homeschooling. At the same time, school officials seem even more reluctant to allow students to transfer into home education. Read about the following case from Florida: https://hslda.org/post/kindergartner-misses-zoom-class-gets-home-visit.

A mom who decided to start homeschooling her kindergartner received a visit from officials. The reason? Her daughter had stopped attending public school classes on Zoom.

Homeschooling’s unexpected heyday

World Magazine ran an interesting article earlier this month about how the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting homeschooling: https://world.wng.org/content/homeschooling_s_unexpected_heyday.

The coronavirus pandemic is giving just about every American family with children a taste of homeschooling. Many of them might like it more than they expected. Robert Bortins, the CEO of Classical Conversations, said the homeschool resource company has had a sudden uptick in requests for materials.....

There's No Place Like Home

What is going on at Harvard University and what do professors there think of homeschooling?

Note: Laurie Higgins of Illinois Family Institute points out correctly that not only is homeschooling under threat of attack but private, Christian schools face the same scrutiny by academics at Harvard University and other universities.

Some School Districts Hoarding Students - HSLDA

Those who are considering beginning to homeschool their children should read this article from HSLDA. It seems that some school districts are trying to hoard students: https://hslda.org/content/docs/news/2020/20200415-Some-School-Districts-Hoarding-Students.aspx.

As educators scramble to adapt to the coronavirus, some parents want to withdraw their children from public school-at-home and start homeschooling. In certain states, officials are saying that isn’t allowed.

One more pitch! I still need 4 interviewees. We can do this virtually! Hello parents! My name is Lisa McGuire, and I am a doctoral candidate under the direction of Professor Roselyn Polk in the College of Doctoral Studies at Grand Canyon University. I can be reached at 660-998-3533, or [email protected]. I have homeschooled for 13 years. Right now, I am pursuing a PhD. My study examines how parents use technology in homeschooling. I also want to see how technology affects their satisfaction. I am seeking participants for my study who meet these criteria: • Over 18 years old • Homeschool their kids, pre-K through 12 • Are decision makers about home school choices • Live in Central Midwestern region You cannot be included in this study if: • You are under 18 years old • Do not home school, or do not make decisions about home schooling • Live outside the Central Midwestern region The activities for this study will include: • Taking a short survey about teaching and a short questionnaire about homeschool decisions. This will be done through Survey Monkey and will take about 15-20 minutes. • You can volunteer to be interviewed, or be in a focus group, which will take another 45 minutes, and can also be done online. • Your participation would be completely voluntary. All data would be kept private. Nothing identifying used within the analysis. If you’re willing to participate, please go to the following address: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/QF55ZX9 If you want to ask me any questions about the process, please don’t hesitate to ask!

Are the dates available for the used homeschooling book sale yet? Usually its April/May. Each year I have a very hard time finding the dates for this sale. Thanks!
I have some questions about the CLASS program. We just finished the CAT testing process with you all and are now researching the curriculum. Here are my questions. I already own the math (Saxon) and science (Apologia) books that we will be using with my son. We will have to purchase the English, history, Bible and any other books that we will need. Besides the cost of curriculum, what else will I be paying for? I've read what I'm supposed to "get" on this page https://www.shopchristianliberty.com/home-school-program/ but I'd like to hear from some users what you feel you are getting and how the CLASS program helps you homeschool. I've been homeschooling 7 years on my own. I'm looking into CLASS to provide accountability and tracking. But I'm really wondering if it's worth the $700-$900. Also, what's the difference between the 10th grade "Class Plan Enrollment" ($650 on sale now here https://www.shopchristianliberty.com/grade-10-class-plan-enrollment/#reviews ) and the "Class Plan Basic College Prep" ($875 on sale now here https://www.shopchristianliberty.com/grade-10-class-plan-enrollment-basic-college-prep/ )? Is the "Class Plan Enrollment" not a college prep? Are seniors accepted to college when they have only done the "Class Plan Enrollment"? Or do you receive enough credits in the "Class Plan Enrollment" to go to most colleges?
