As a kid, I loved flashy music. Van Halen. Prince. Big sounds. Big personalities. Then I heard Ray Charles.
He didn't try to overwhelm me. He slowed everything down and let the power of his voice do the work. Even then, I could hear something special in that voice. I couldn't explain it. But I knew it was real.

Most people know Bobby McFerrin from "Don't Worry, Be Happy." But that's only a tiny glimpse of what makes him remarkable. For me, Bobby McFerrin completely changed my understanding of what the human voice could do. Melody, harmony, rhythm, percussion, bass, texture... sometimes all at once. The more I listened, the more impossible it seemed.
"Which singer completely changed how you think about the human voice?"

Inspired by strictly Japanese chord structures and the brilliance of Jonathan Andrew Rysdon, this theatrical and epic 5-song EP follows the life story of Musashi, yet in music.

You know, one of our biggest problems (me and Jonathan) is that we can't stick to any particular genre or style. I wouldn't have it any other way.

For years I kept finding artists who seemed to be asking: "What else can this thing do?"
Then I discovered Mr. Bungle. Their music didn't just push boundaries. It made me question whether those boundaries existed in the first place. This is one of the most important lessons I've learned from music.
"What's the most boundary-pushing band you've ever heard?"

One of the biggest hits of the 1980s broke a rule that most producers consider essential. Prince's "When Doves Cry" includes drums, vocals, guitars, and synthesizers... but no bass guitar.
The result was a sound unlike anything else on the radio. Sometimes the most important creative decision isn't what you add. It's what you're willing to remove.
"What's your favorite song that breaks the rules?"

Most of my life I have been told I listen to music for the wrong reasons. Have you ever felt like a tribe of one?

For most of my life, people told me I listened to music for the wro...

I ignored Content ID for years.
Not because I thought it was useless. I just kept telling myself I'd learn it later.
Turns out, it became one of the most important factors in my entire distributor comparison.
How long have you been putting off learning Content ID?

I was comparing DistroKid and Ditto Music when I found a number I didn't trust.
$25,185.
So I double-checked my math.
Then I realized I might actually have to switch.
Would a number like that make you reconsider your distributor?

I thought I'd eventually protect my entire music catalog.
Then I did the math.
Would you pay $4,350 to keep your music online forever, or would you only protect certain songs?

Some songs took months. Some almost never got finished.

Now they're all part of Music For Miracles.
