Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon, with more widespread storm development expected tonight. All modes of severe weather are possible, along with a risk of heavy rain and localized flooding. Destructive hail greater than baseballs and damaging winds over 70 mph are the main threats today, but a few tornadoes are also possible. Have multiple ways to receive warnings and be ready to seek shelter if a warning is issued for your area.

A Tornado Watch is in effect until 10 PM this evening for portions of North Texas near and north of the I-20 corridor. A couple of strong tornadoes, tennis ball (2.5 inch) size hail, and damaging winds up to 70 mph will all be possible with any severe storm that forms in the Watch area. A few strong to severe storms will be possible near a cold front this afternoon through the evening, most likely between 4 pm and midnight. Widespread showers and thunderstorms will move west to east throughout the day. Scattered showers and storms will linger Saturday night, exiting east early Sunday AM. Most likely rainfall totals will range from 0.5"-1.5" with localized 2-2.5". A few storms may become strong or marginally severe with hail and gusty winds. There is also a threat for a quick spin-up mainly across the Brazos Valley during the afternoon and evening hours.

Widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected to make their return to North and Central Texas Friday night into Saturday. Be prepared for a rainy Valentine's Day, especially if you have any outdoor plans on Saturday. Most likely rainfall totals will range from 0.5"-2" with the lesser amounts over Central Texas and the greater amounts over North Texas. Localized totals nearing 2.5-3" will be possible east of I-35 and north of I-20. Isolated strong storms capable of producing small hail and gusty winds will be possible Saturday afternoon across parts of Central Texas and the Brazos Valley. All rain will exit to the east by early Sunday morning.
