In December 2025, UTA named Melinda Nguyen as the school’s first flag football head coach. Nguyen’s arrival in Arlington, although her first Division I gig, is merely the latest milestone in a lifetime around flag football.

Melinda Nguyen draws from years as a player and coach to bring the women’s sport to campus, with competition beginning in spring 2027.

Despite legal efforts, Tarrant County will have fewer voting sites for the Nov. 3 election than in the 2022 midterm election. On Tuesday, a Tarrant County district judge denied a request to reinstate 92 voting sites for the midterm election that were removed by a vote during a Sept. 1 Tarrant County Commissioners Court meeting.

The closest voting location to UTA will be the Tarrant County Sub-Courthouse in Arlington, as the Maverick Activities Center will remain off the list.

UTA celebrated Founders Day on Thursday at Brazos Park. Activities, games, chairs and tables lined the turf lawn as students, faculty and staff gathered.

The event included performances, inflatable games and giveaways for students, faculty and staff.

Residents and visitors can enjoy haunting vibes at Spooky Night Market hosted by Small Business Mercado from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the City Hall parking lot. The event will feature trick-or-treating, a live rock band, axe throwing and more.
