Have you found yourself in the attic lately, doing a little clean-up and re-organizing. Bet you came across a box of old photos. If those photos have seen better days, you need to read our guide to restoring old photos on the blog: https://buff.ly/3keEWUa

Sometimes we get to work with famous people, like Liza Minnelli or Rosie Perez (yes we have worked with them). We are starting a scanning project we can't say anything about until next year… but when we do, it will be so COOL! Stay tuned!

Where do you store your photos? Your computer? Facebook? Snapchat?

A study just released through TechCrunch indicates that SnapChat is on pace to surpass Facebook and Instagram in the number of photos being shared virtually. That is over 500 million photos shared per day on average so far in 2013. As the founder of APPO – (Association of Personal Photo Organizers...

Downsizing Your Parent's Photos | The Photo Organizers

Clients that are downsizing their parents photos is a huge part of our business. Here are some great tips from professional photo organizer Elaine Johnson, we really think everyone downsizing should read this!

by Elaine Johnson Back in the day, our parents purchased a roll of film, loaded their cameras, shot the pictures, and had them developed. Easy, right??? They would go home and pop the photos into those horrible “glue back” photo albums, but at least they got into an album. There are two problems...

Attics, Basements and Garages, the three horsemen of a photo apocalypse!

Your printed photos and memorabilia should be stored away from light and dust in archival containers and located in the main part of the house, with average room temperatures and low humidity. Avoid basements, attics, and garages – your photos should live where you live. Register for our FREE online summit, over 40 classes taught by the Pros! https://buff.ly/3hoCklh #SaveYourPhotos2020

The more information we have about a photo, the more meta data we can add to the scans!

Metadata is information that is digitally attached to your images and can help identify key information. This data makes it easier for you to search for your images and helps tell the story of the photo. Photo organizing software allows you to embed this information into your image files. Good advise! We utilize a photo hub, both for us and for our clients!

Your digital photo hub is a designated location, such as an external hard drive, where all your original digital and scanned photos live. Copy your digital photos and videos from all your various devices including phones, camera cards, USB sticks, etc. Then begin to sort by date or theme, or whichever organizing structure you've determined. As you scan prints, add those image files to the hub. Register for our FREE online summit, over 40 classes taught by the Pros! https://buff.ly/3hoCklh #SaveYourPhotos2020

Oh the "magnetic" albums, how we despise you!

Old magnetic or "sticky" albums contain unsafe components that act as a chemical sandwich for your photos. The acids from the plastic and adhesive are very harmful to your photos and will cause them to deteriorate. Remove the photos as quickly as possible! Tip Thursday: If you organize your photos by subject/year, we can store that information in the metadata in the images. That way, when you put the images in your photo program, that information will be stored for each photo. I.e. France June 1976 photos, the file name would be 1976_June_France.jpg

Over the weekend, a client dropped off all of her photos. She had called on Thursday in middle of the deluge we got and her basement was flooding. Her photos albums were floating and she lost quite a number of them. She was able to save some but lost a lot of the photos of her with her mother who passed away when the client was only 10.

We can't stress enough about the importance of digitizing before a disaster like this happens! Once the photos are ruined, they are gone FOREVER! Digitize now!

09/11/2020

Cost saving tip: Remove all double prints before giving us your photos before we start scanning! We won't know that there are doubles until we start editing!

Rick at Digital Recollections was great to work with! He helped me digitize old family photos and a very special old cassette tape. He was friendly, helpful, and answered all my questions.
