I have been wondering why no one in government, the President, his deputy, C's Environment and PS Environment, any official, has congratulated Truphena Muthoni
for such an amazing fete. It's been three hours plus. And the way we rush to celebrate our marathoners.
After reading this post she did on 30th November 2025, now I have the answers. She wrote:
"Sometimes the systems meant to support us are the same ones that fail us.
This year, the Ministry of Environment systems did not work for me. My accreditation came late. My Member of County Assembly had to physically swipe her badge for the process to move. By the time clearance arrived, the timelines for travel were no longer humanly possible visas delayed, long layovers, unpredictable routes. Even diplomats from both Brazil and Kenya made desperate interventions. Everyone had invested in this journey since March: journalists, indigenous communities, climate defenders, youth, mothers, elders… all of them pushing, hoping, believing. And that is exactly why stopping was never an option.
When I shared that maybe I would shift the world record attempt to the next COP, my County Governor, H.E. Mwalimu Mutahi Kahiga, EGH looked at me and said:
“My daughter, do not skip 2025 projects. Do not postpone your purpose. Go on.”
Because this is bigger than borders. Bigger than paperwork. Bigger than me.
The Quilombolas my family in spirit, my teachers in courage have been sending me voice notes filled with strength, ancestral energy, and unshakeable love. They remind me every day of the maternal force of our ancient mothers, the resilience of resistance communities, and the living heartbeat of forests that hold our histories.
Their support traveled across oceans.
Their light reached me even when flights could not.
I cannot give up because of the Quilombolas. I walk with them. I stand for them. And this world record is for them no matter where it takes place.
Marji Puotinen did a one week tree hug.Quilombolas are activating their communities.Youth are rising. Elders are praying.
Women are leading.
Our ancestors are watching. The spirit of the Quilombolas walks with me. The maternal strength of our ancient mothers holds me.
The global Indigenous movement lifts me.
I will be breaking my own world record at the Office of the Governor during the Nyeri Youth Summit &UNEA 7"

You gotta push your own limits even if the system is limiting you.
Keep going, look for an alternative route.
