June quarterly in-person ACFW DFW meeting

Let’s Talk About Writing Rules with Neal Allen and Anne Lamott
Discussion lead by Lyndie Blevins

Join ACFW DFW’s own Lyndie Blevins for a writing discussion based on the new book, Good Writing: 36 Ways to Improve Your Sentences, by Neal Allen and Anne Lamott. The event will be held at the George W. Hawkes Library in Arlington, TX, on Saturday, June 13, 2026; 0:30a-12p. Join us for a pay-your-way luncheon at a nearby restaurant after the meeting.

During this meeting, we’ll discuss several of Neal’s rules for writing, along with Anne’s take on Neal’s thoughts. You’re invited to bring a few pages of your current work-in-progress (either paper or electronically) to check your sentences against their advice.

(Note: there isn’t a TicketLeap registration available for this event but for room size and to ensure enough handouts, please RSVP your attendance in a FB message or email to [email protected]. Thank you!)

Saturday, May 9, 2026, meet online from 10:00a-12p with ACFW DFW to hear author Lisa Carter discuss the second half of: Scene and Sequel, Pt 2

For writers regardless of genre, Scene and Sequel (also known as Action and Reaction) are the building blocks to understanding and mastering story structure.

In this two-part discussion, an intense examination is taken of what every writer should know about scene and sequel.

Part 2 will continue where we left off in part 1 (information below) and discuss: how Scene and Sequel work together, the why of Sequels, the how of Sequels, and four types of Scene/Sequel endings.
* TicketLeap registration info in comments

Part 1 , which was given at the ACFW DFW Mini Conference in April 2026, can be heard (or refresh your knowledge) by answering the questions during registration. In that discussion, the following was talked about: defining scene and sequel, story in a nutshell, and examined several popular plotting methodologies, including internal journey, external arc, GMC, and story beats; must-have Scene components, and must-have Sequel components.

Lisa Carter is a Publishers Weekly bestselling and award-winning author of more than thirty contemporary romance, historical and romantic suspense novels. Two of her books, Under a Turquoise Sky and The Christmas Bargain, have won Carol Awards. The Stronghold won a Daphne du Maurier Award for romantic suspense.

When she’s not working on her next novel, she loves spending time with family and teaching writer workshops. Lisa enjoys traveling and researching her next fictional adventure. A native North Carolinian, she has strong opinions on barbecue and ACC basketball. Visit Lisa at lisacarterauthor.com for more information about her books or to sign up for her newsletter.

Join ACFW DFW on Saturday, February 14, 2026 from 10:30a-12p (event open at 10a for fellowship), for Is AI Your Ally? with Sara Turnquist.

AI is on the scene and it's not going away. Instead of the unethical ways it can be used, this class covers some of the benefits of AI for writers. From brainstorming to research, we’ll explore the many avenues writers can tap into AI.

This class will also give some tips on how you can use AI to integrate with Scrivener and create a storyboard for your novel.

Sara is a coffee lovin', word slinging, Jesus followin’ clean Historical Romance author whose superpower is converting caffeine into novels. She is a hybrid author of over 25 titles, having been traditionally published with a smaller press and now fully indie. Her books range in setting from the Czech lands to the American Wild West … and from 300 BC's ancient Egypt to the early 1900s.

She is a sought-after speaker and has taught at many Christian writers’ conferences, including ACFW Virginia, Kentucky Christian Writers Conference, Lancaster Christian Writers Conference, Capital Christian Writers Fellowship Summit, and LiteraryScape Summit, as well as appearing on multiple writing podcasts and writers groups.

Her classes include topics ranging from developing characters and plotting to Scrivener tricks and tidbits, to wisdom on indie publishing … and many topics in between. Her teaching is heralded as not only informative but practical.

She appears weekly via livestream on Facebook and YouTube and also speaks into the lives of writers struggling with anxiety and depression on her YouTube Channel.

Her many books include the following series: Convenient Risk Series, Cripple Creek Series, Railway Romance Series, Lady Of Bohemia Series, And Across The Years Series. She and her books can be found at: on Amazon or at saraturnquist.com/books.
