WERA 96.7 FM

Launched on December 6, 2015, Arlington County, VA now has its very own community FM radio station, WERA! Broadcasting at 96.7 FM, WERA covers a 3.5-mile radius emanating from the transmitter’s location in the Courthouse area of Arlington. Designated as “low-power” by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the maximum 100-watt station will provide considerable coverage of Arlington County.

“The signal will cover nearly all of Arlington and a part of downtown Washington, D.C., including the White House and a portion of the National Mall,” AIM Executive Director Paul LeValley says. “But our focus will be on Arlington with the intent to provide hyper-local news, information, and entertainment,” he adds. WERA will provide another means for AIM to fulfill its mission of providing access to the media and offering training, resources, facilities, and equipment to all so that anyone can produce their own content. Although details are still being worked out, the station’s goal will involve having community residents host their own radio programs featuring talk, music, news, and event coverage.
