In a letter to parents and staff yesterday, Broadneck High School Principal Patrick Gelinas announced that he is leaving to become the director of safe and orderly schools for Anne Arundel County Public Schools after two years at Broadneck.

“The BHS team that works so hard every day for our students is second to none and this community has been supportive of our team and our students in every way possible,” he wrote. “I will miss the daily interaction with our students, staff, and community.”

Broadneck families are invited to share their input about the next principal in one of the following ways:

• Attend an in-person meeting that is scheduled for Monday, July 28, at 8:00am in the Broadneck High School media center.

• Complete the Google form (sent by email) by Tuesday, July 29. The form asks the same three questions that will be shared during the in-person meeting.

Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) Superintendent Mark Bedell presented two proposals for redistricting yesterday.

In a win for the Jones Elementary community, Jones students will continue to attend Severna Park Middle School in both recommendations, as opposed to a previous option to move some kids to Severn River Middle School.

The Board of Education will hold an August workshop, select an option and hold a public briefing in September, and finalize the decision in November.

To see how the updated options affect you, or to leave a comment, share your feedback by September 5 to this link:

Nearly 20 years ago, artist Cindy Fletcher-Holden (owner of Fletcher Art) painted a mural on the back of the Carr Building along the B&A Trail. Today, Fletcher-Holden (left) is back with intern Liza Love to spruce up the beach and railroad mural, near the corner of B&A Boulevard and McKinsey Road. Check out the work in progress.
