AACC’s Empty Bowls fundraiser brought students and faculty together on April 8, raising $1,850 for HelpLink through a community soup event in the Hawk’s Nest.

Several dozen attendees purchased $10 bowls of homemade soup prepared by a 12-student culinary team. The menu featured five options, including lasagna soup, vegan tortilla, and Maryland seafood bisque. Culinary arts students, guided by Michael Levins, used the event as hands-on training—serving guests, practicing public interaction, and experiencing real-world food service. Health-focused booths were also set up, connecting visitors with information about health professions.

On March 4, faculty at Anne Arundel Community College voted no confidence in Provost Tanya Millner, citing concerns over leadership, lack of faculty input, and changes impacting classes, workload, and pay.

Faculty leaders say decisions—like cutting low-enrollment classes and removing course reductions—were made without proper collaboration. The vote is not binding, but it formally signals dissatisfaction to President Dawn Lindsay and the Board of Trustees.

While some administrators have expressed support for Millner, faculty argue the issue reflects deeper tensions around trust, shared governance, and transparency.

AACC now requires multifactor authentication (MFA) for students accessing platforms like mymail and Canvas. Students must log in with their password and then verify the login using an authenticator app, text, or phone call. The change adds an extra layer of security, and students should update their phone number with the college to avoid login issues.

AACC faculty are raising concerns about the future of programs at the Glen Burnie Sarah E. Carter building when it reopens in January after renovations.
English language learning and adult education staff worry the new shared space with the Anne Arundel Workforce Development Corp. could reduce classroom availability, including needed computer labs and meeting areas for students.
The Glen Burnie site has served as a hub for adult education since 1996, helping thousands of local students. Program leaders say less space could impact enrollment and student relationships, though some believe sharing the building may improve access to county workforce services.
