Tremendous disinformation may have doomed this Asbury Park landmark. Only legitimate issue was parking concerns which led to a 3-2 vote on AP Council against a preservation plan the developer himself proposed. (Quinn and Chapman voted for it.) The project would have paid MORE in revenue than the six McMansions the developer is allowed by zoning to build, and now will build as his only alternative. The preservation plan was for culture uses inside the church and 18 units of affordable housing in a new apartment building next to the church.
