Turner County's sales tax rate went to 9 percent Thursday, Jan, 1, 2026.

If you run a business and collect sales tax, you should be collecting 9% now instead of the 8% collected on Dec. 31.

The rate increase was printed in The Wiregrass Farmer last year, specifically, Page 6 Dec. 10, 2025.

We are currently checking to see who, if anyone, was responsible for letting local businesses know about the increase.

Taxes are in the system at the Courthouse Annex. You can go by and pay your taxes any time.

If you pay, you will likely still get a bill. DO NOT get upset about this. Tax bills have to be sent out.

If this concerns you:

1) Wait for the bill to pay it.
2) Pay it now and when you get the bill, POLITELY call the Tax Commissioner's office to verify the bill is paid.

This covers the County and School Board Taxes.

If you live in one of the cities, you pay those property taxes at the proper City Hall.

Same rules of being polite apply. If you do not like your tax bill, tell the County Commission, School Board and/or City Council. The folks taking your money have NOTHING to do with how much you have pay.

Like as not, they are not happy about their taxes either.
