Mt Mitchell has always been wildly interesting to photograph. Despite being the tallest mountain east of the Mississippi, there are very few good viewpoints relative to how large it is, as it is somewhat hidden in between a few surrounding mountain ranges.

The best views tend to be from the East, and post Helene I found a fantastic spot to show the scale of the mountain and a motorcycle to put some scale and grandeur on this monster. Before the hurricane, this shot on Highway 80 right over the Buck Forest gap would have looked far different. -Stephan

Every year we say we are finally going to get up to the to get some shots of the Rhododendrons blooming, and we finally just went and f’n did it. The bonus was the entire way up we were stuck in a rain storm, but the rain broke right around Craggy (as it often does) and what resulted was a spectacular background of low lying post-storm clouds in the Barnardsville valley as a bonus.
