Yes, I know it’s weird. But for now 30 years, I’ve played A Long December at midnight on December 1. Yes the song takes place after December. It just started 3 decades ago and this isn’t exactly a New Year’s Eve #1 track. Either way, regardless of how much things suck (and it s a lot lately) there is a 4 minutes 57 seconds at midnight every year where you pour a drink, and hope this year is better than the last.

After 37 years, the iconic Newport brewery abruptly closed Friday - production facility, all pubs in Oregon, everything.

There’s some back rent financials. Debt. The usual brewery loss story we keep hearing.

This hits different. John Maier is a legend. Dead Guy is a legendary beer.

Rogue Ales & Spirits abruptly shut down all operations this morning after 37 years. The Newport production facility, all the pubs in Oregon - gone.

They owed $545,000 in back rent to the Port of Newport and over $30,000 in property taxes.

Brutal.

Piggly Wiggly has their own beer line thanks to . The brewery created three styles uniquely for , and didn’t just rebrand beers they already produced. Something quite distinctive for this collaboration. Only in Wisconsin right now but dang worth the $8.99 price tag / 6-pack. Donuts & frozen pizza not included.

October 29, 1929: Black Tuesday. The day that changed Wall Street forever.

Incidentally, it’s the inspiration for ’s Black Tuesday, one of thr most brooding, strong, barrel-aged imperial stouts to ever “crash” craft beer. This 20%-ish abv bourbon barrel aged stout always seemed to show up at bottle shares after midnight, ensuring a rough morning. The rule has and is, someone brings a Black Tuesday, you drink Black Tuesday

Haven’t had it in years, but it’s not just in bourbon anymore, BT runs in Brandy, Red Wine, Tequila, & Gin barrels now.

On a dark anniversary like today, I can’t help but think about this beer. 🍺

Oskar Blues Brewery launched Dale’s Pale Ale in 2002. Since then the brewery has gradually turned Dale’s from a single beer into a whole series of beers.

This month, the brewery launches Dale’s American IPA described as “Hoppy, straightforward, and familiar”
