“My mother thinks we’re the Beyoncé of knitting.”

I had so much fun talking to for a few weeks ago. Check out the link in my profile to read about Tracie and Jodi’s podcast and unexpected knitting fame.

A little break from craft talk today.

I’ve endured decades of people calling my Appalachian accent cute and funny, but I’ve also endured the equally annoying but less innocent questions of when I owned my first pair of shoes or learned to read.

After years of laughing with them or trying to hide my accent, I started letting people know how hurtful those comments are, and that led me to a more in-depth look at where I come from and why these stereotypes exist. I’m shedding the shame and embracing a culture I love, appreciate, and identify with.

I bought this stack of books from , and I can’t wait to read them.

Well that dang second vaccine sure got me. I felt like 💩 yesterday and just stared at the ceiling drooling, but today I started to feel a bit better and spent some quality time with Yoda.

I recently spoke to about and their network of Hudson Valley farms, retailers, and organizations. They have so many fun things coming up (I’m really excited about the yarn tasting).

Battenkill Fibers founder and owner Mary Jeanne Packer () and her team know how to spin a beautiful yarn, sure, but Battenkill is also part of a hub that brings together local farms, fiber businesses, and makers in the Hudson Valley.

Packer started Battenkill Fibers—a carding and spinning mill located in Greenwich, New York—in 2009. Many businesses tout the benefits of connecting and sharing knowledge with the community, but few go the extra mile that Packer does.

Her advice to businesses: “Take advantage of business networks and community groups. If you don’t have a community, you’ll have to make one. That is my story.”

Today I tried steeking for the first time. In the past I’ve avoided patterns with steeking or found workarounds. But it’s really not so scary.

I did the crochet reinforcement. Before I started, I ran the white yarn up the center of the stitch to be swallowed up by the steeking, and that helped a lot, especially on this black yarn that was difficult to see. Hooray for knitting outside my comfort zone!

I have really enjoyed reading all your sweet emails and DMs about my article in the spring issue of Interweave Knits! It seems like we all have something in common, and I’m so grateful to everyone who took time to write me.

The issue is still for sale if you haven’t picked up a copy yet. Let me know if you’ve frogged without guilt since reading it! 💜

This sweater made me cry.

I made it for Alex, and you can see how much time and effort went into it. So. Many. Cables. Alex wore it to work yesterday, and when he came home, the sweater had grown in length by several inches in the neck, hem, and sleeves.

I couldn’t deal with it. Today I felt brave, and I looked on Ravelry to see several other people had commented about this same issue in garments. I’m so bummed.

I learned a lesson from this: Research yarn as much as you can to avoid seeing your beautiful work go down the toilet.

I made this sweater in January of last year and never posted it. 😆 At Christmas, I complained to Alex that he never wears his handmade sweaters, so he put this one on and wore it around the house all fancy like. He even let me take this photo, made even better by his fun pj pants.

Another make from 2020. I fell in love with this color at and tweaked the pattern a little so I could make it with a sport-weight yarn because the DK was sold out. The pattern and yarn were just meant for each other.
