Erica Schaffel, a watercolor artist from Asheville, NC., pushed forward with a wonderful idea in the wake of Hurricane Helene: A Kickstarter to fund the Asheville Artists Flood Collection, which is a card deck and coffee table book featuring 54 original pieces of art lost to the flood. It is quite an imaginative way of memorializing, honoring, and sharing these artist’s works with the world, while putting money directly into the hands of artists who truly need it, as quickly as possible. Minus operating costs, ALL proceeds will be split evenly between 54 participating artists.

I feel blessed and grateful to have had a piece of my work accepted by the curators of this project.

You can assist by hopping onto Kickstarter, https://www.kickstarter.com/.../the-asheville-artists... , and becoming a part of the financial support of the project and the artists included. The project also includes plans for the card decks and books to be in stores and galleries across our region.

This Kickstarter will end on November 3rd so please hurry and become a part of this project now!

(Erica Schaffel is a watercolor artist from Asheville, NC. on Instagram to learn more about her and see her work!)

My sincere thanks to you-

Stephen

I wrote this earlier in the morning and thought I would share it with you. (Studio 160 is where I worked...and played. Why do musicians get to "play" and we artists "work"?)

“We Become”

and then the rivers quieted

the winds softened

the sky offered dry blue

we use the earth’s offerings

building what we build

harnessing our Mother

or so we think

as we offer our own storms

ALL crumbles to Her mighty powers

even some of our very selves

our tears become new waters

our broken hearts become wind

our spirits sky

we learn

we grow

we become

This is a mixed media drawing of what I assume was a loud, powerful, and beloved "workhorse". It is now at rest for, probably, ever, enjoying the quiet and calm and beauty of the North Carolina mountains.

This is a mixed media drawing of a building within less than an hour of my home. "Standing, Still, in Western North Carolina".

Hard to find the words to explain the joy that comes from exploration of the outer world and the inner world. When it comes to Western North Carolina, I am continually amazed and enriched by the land and its people.
