Tropical Recap. The "No Name Storm", Tropical Rainstorm, or whatever is at the NC Coast will move away NE tomorrow (Monday) evening. Otherwise, there is an area in the Atlantic the NWS has labeled Invest 97L. As shown this will curve Northward and not effect land. The tropical season is still working through its timeline. Look for maybe a couple more names to be used.

Coastal Storm this weekend along the SC/NC and VA Coastal areas. An area of Low Pressure will form near the SC Coast on Friday and become a per se' non-tropical storm (cold core) This will have tropical storm effect along the coast and probably a couple counties inland. Heavy rain and strong gusty winds will persist through Sunday causing coastal and inland flooding. Wind gust of 30-50 mph will cause power outages. Prepare for the loss of power and evacuate to a safer location of told to or feel the need to. No grills or generator's indoors. Like a Nor'easter in the Southeast. Basically, prepare for a tropical storm.Secure items around the yard and boats. For local weather info go to www.weather.gov. I'm showing a graphic from NWS Wilmington as well as the GFS model overnight Saturday.

Looking at the tropics, mainly the SE Coast and Carolina's. Firstly Tropical Storm Jerry. The storm is currently 750 miles ESE of the Northern Leeward Islands moving WNW at 22mph. Winds are 60mph. Jerry will be very near the Leeward Islands Thursday night into Friday. Tropical Storm Watches are issued for that area. Okay, the forecast for the Carolina's, Virginia Coast the coming weekend. A Coastal Storm will develop late Friday into Saturday just off or at the SC/NC Coast. If its more Northerly it will be non-tropical, more Southerly tropical. Either way a storm, is a storm. There is an area of high pressure in the Northeast and the low in the SE. The pressure gradient between will, along with the storm, bring high onshore winds mainly to NC and VA. Wind gust of 30-50 mph are forecast along with heavy rain along the coastal counties. No matter what its called or isn't called this will have tropical storm impacts. Prepare accordingly. Flooding both salt and fresh water flooding will be a factor. If you feel a need to evacuate and go to a safer place...do so. For your local weather info go to www.weather.gov This will be a Saturday into Monday event.

Invest 95L has become Tropical Storm Jerry today. The center is approx 1150 miles ESE of the Northern Leeward Islands moving West at 23mph. winds are 50mph. Tropical storm watches issued for Barbuda, Anguilla, St Barthelemy and St Martin. This will effect those areas late Thursday into Friday. Interest in the USVI should monitor this storm closely. Elsewhere, closer to home. Im showing the EURO wind model at 8pm Saturday night. This is showing a closed area of low pressure at the NC Coast with variable winds of 45 to 55mph. A Storm, tropical, non-tropical. This will make up quick over night Friday into Saturday. I would venture to say if you are on the NC Coast prepare for gusty winds and heavy rain Saturday and Sunday. This will probably also cause some inland flooding especially along creeks, rivers, and low lying areas. Also showing hazards maps from Wilmington and Moorehead City NWS. If this storm develops quick, which it looks like, you will not have much if any time to prepare. I would prepare like you would for a tropical storm. Starting to see some chatter on this, so will see what develops. You can always check your weather info at www.weather.gov .

Lets look at the tropics and talk about what's seen and what isn't. The obvious is the highlighted red area which is identified as Invest 95L. This tropical system looks to effect the Northern Leeward Islands on Friday before turning Northward in the Mid-Atlantic. The yellow area near the Yucatan is nothing. ***Now the unseen. The EURO,GFS, and CMC models each are showing a named tropical system developing at/near/along the Carolina's Coast late Friday into Saturday.*** When 3 models show the same thing...somethings up. Interest along the Carolina's and Virginia Coast need to stay up with your very latest weather later in the week. There is nothing there, making up yet so nothing to track. Just a heads up.

Still watching the tropics. The NHC has 2 areas highlighted. The one near Florida may become a non-tropical Low...may. Otherwise, it will enhance the rainy weather over Florida through the weekend. The tropical wave just coming off the African Coast will likely become a named storm by mid-week and the Leeward Islands need to watch this area closely.

Tropical Depression 9 has become Tropical Storm Imelda today. Currently the center is located approx 355 miles SE of Cape Canaveral, Fl moving North at 8mph. Winds are 40 mph. The cyclone is forecast to move North then as a front approaches it will move NE away from the SE Coast. There is considerable rainfall ahead of the storm which will lead to enhanced rainfall in the Eastern parts of SC and NC. This could lead to inland flooding in low lying locations. Keep up with your local weather.

Looking at tropical depression #9. *** Tropical Storm Watch issued for portions of the Florida East Coast** Its messy and to early to make a definite call. The center of TD9 is about 200 miles NW of the Eastern tip of Cuba moving NW at 5mph. This TD is expected to become a tropical storm tonight or early Sunday. This storm looks to go North close enough to the Florida Coast to cause tropical storm conditions right at the coast. Now comes the confusing part... Weather models are all over. The EURO I'm showing is the best. It has 30 model runs, each with different parameters. About half make a right turn at the SC Coast, while the other half have a landfall in SC going inland. Since this circulation and data is relatively fresh, models haven't had enough time to work it out. There will be additional watches and warnings posted tomorrow for the SE Coastline. For now, If you live along the SC or NC Coast, make preparations for a hurricane prob Tuesday. Have your plan and start to put into action. There is to much uncertainty in the forecast to do nothing. As time goes along check with www.weather.gov for your local weather info.
