Hey everyone, George here. I live in Burnsville and look what I found hanging outside my door. A baby bat! This is the 2nd time in 28 years that I have been in the mountains I have seen one. The 1st time was in 1997 when I was working at WKSF Kiss Country FM. One got inside the building and hung upside down on the ceiling tiles. Has anyone encountered this here in our mountains?

**FROM BUNCOMBE COUNTY GOVERNMENT/Private road and bridge program repairs from Hurricane Helene**

Reminder: The last day to apply for the North Carolina Private Road and Bridge Program is August 3. Learn more below:

Was your private road, bridge, or culvert damaged by Tropical Storm Helene? The North Carolina Private Road and Bridge Program (NC-PRB) was made to help property owners across western North Carolina with damages from Helene.

The NC-PRB will prioritize repairs to private roads or bridges that:
- Are the sole access for emergency services to residential properties occupied by the property owner for over six months of the calendar year.
- Provide access to multiple residential homes, recreation or commercial facilities.

How to Get Started:
If you have a private road, culvert, pipe, or bridge that was damaged or destroyed following Tropical Storm Helene and you are located in an eligible county, please fill out the NC-PRB Interest Form; find the link in our bio.

If you need help with the form or have general questions about the NC Private Roads and Bridges Program, your first stop should be the Buncombe County Helene Resource Center for in-person assistance. You can also contact the program directly by emailing [email protected] or calling 1-844-746-2326.

Hey everyone, In case you didn't know: it's hot.
A Heat Advisory has been issued for Saturday from noon - 8PM for most of the areas east of the mountains. Expect heat indices in the triple digits. Stay cool, stay hydrated, and don't leave a pet or child alone in a vehicle!

07/25/2025

Heat index values between 100°F-110°F are likely each afternoon from Friday through Wednesday next week across the Piedmont and foothills of the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia. This will be an abnormal and long-duration heat wave with not much relief. Be sure to remain hydrated by drinking plenty of water and stay indoors in air conditioning whenever possible.
