ASHEVILLE MAN DEAD - MULTIPLE GUN SHOT WOUNDS - SUSPECT CAUGHT - AMBOY RD

Asheville Police Detectives have arrested and charged a man with murder in the early Sunday morning shooting that left one man dead.

APD officers responded to the 200 block of Amboy Road at 7:36 a.m. following a report of a gunshot wound. Upon arrival, officers located Antonio Tremaine Carson Jr. (12/31/2005), who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Carson Jr. succumbed to his injuries on scene. Next of kin has been notified.

During the investigation, Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) data and surveillance footage were instrumental in establishing a detailed timeline of events. Detectives and Forensic Technicians recovered several critical pieces of physical evidence. Investigators presented the findings to the District Attorney’s Office, resulting in a alledged First Degree Murder Charge and Discharging Firearm in City Limits. APD investigators subsequently arrested the initial caller, Hayden Ray Shores (3/14/2003), and booked him into the Buncombe County Detention Center under no bond (ineligible for release) by a magistrate.

APD detectives continue the investigation and ask if anyone has more information about the case to call APD at (828) 252-1110 or anonymously share information by texting TIP2APD to 847411, or use the TIP2APD smartphone app.

This is the sixth homicide for Asheville in 2025.

CITY OF ASHEVILLE ORDERED TO PAY $81,000.00 IN LEGAL FEES FOR DISCRIMINATION AGAINST WHITE PEOPLE -

A federal judge recently ordered the city of Asheville, NC, to pay over $81,000 in legal fees for five white residents who sued, alleging racial discrimination when excluded from a city equity board by requiring a "plus factor" (like LGBTQ+ status) for white applicants, violating equal protection. The city settled the underlying discrimination claim in September but faced this final fee order in December 2025.

Plaintiffs: Five white residents who were denied spots on the Asheville Human Relations Commission (HRCA).

Allegation: The HRCA's application process unfairly excluded white applicants unless they had a "plus factor," discriminating based on race.

Judge: U.S. District Judge Martin Reidinger.

Outcome: The judge ordered Asheville to pay over $81,000 for the plaintiffs' legal costs.

Context: The city had previously settled the main lawsuit in September 2025, but the legal fees remained to be settled.

NOW THE BUNCOMBE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE SAY'S COREY HOWELL WAS NOT MISTAKENLY RELEASED / ESCAPED FROM THE JAIL FACILITY -

Press Release from the BCSO -

"BCSO has spoken with Transylvania County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) regarding Corey Howell and at this time there are no active holds or warrants related to these charges.

Upon a thorough review from both agencies, it has been determined that Mr. Howell is not a fugitive on the run and was not mistakenly released. His bond for all his valid pending Transylvania charges resulted in a written promise issued by a Buncombe County Magistrate.

TCSO has informed BCSO that Mr. Howell appeared in Transylvania Court Thursday, December 4th to address his pending cases and it was determined that an eCourts clerical error occurred relating to the Assault on a Female charge which should’ve been recalled prior to Mr. Howell being initially apprehended.

BCSO would like to thank TCSO for being in constant communication with us to handle what initially appeared as mistaken release. At this time, Transylvania Court will address Mr. Howell’s pending charges through the court system. Due to the situation being resolved, BCSO will now archive our social media post as it is incorrect."
- End Press Release

It is undetermined how many hours officers frantically searched for Corey Howell at a cost to the tax payers.

This is a developing story.....
