As resident Molly Pritchard shares, seeing black bears wander through the neighborhood can be thrilling, but sharing our community with wildlife also means giving them the space and respect they deserve. 😍

Simple habits make a difference. Secure trash in bear proof cans, avoid bird feeders, lock car doors, never intentionally feed bears, and always keep your distance from mothers and cubs. 💚

🐦‍⬛ Blue Ridge Audubon’s annual ‘Swift Night Out’ was held on Thurs. September 24, on the roof of the Civic Center Garage (Harrah’s).

🐦‍⬛ Fall means Chimney Swift migration!
Swifts migrate to South America each winter flying across the Gulf of Mexico or skirting the Texas coast.
Swifts fly high in the sky eating ‘on the wing’. Chimney Swifts eat flies, bees, wasps, ants, mayflies, stoneflies, beetles, caddisflies, craneflies, and other insects.

🐦‍⬛Thousands of swifts roost together in chimneys, smokestacks or hollow trees funneling into them at dusk in spectacular tornado-like flocks.

🐦‍⬛It is quite a sight to see them swirl at dusk with their distinctive, high-pitched chattering.

🐦‍⬛ Estimates of the number of Swifts is from 3000-4000

What does home mean to the Jones family? It’s being surrounded by neighbors who feel more like family. 🏡

Sarah and Garret love raising Anna and Vada in Grove Park, where the girls can walk to school or a friend’s house and the family can head up to the Grove Park Inn for a game of tennis. 🎾

Life stays busy with basketball, drama club, Spanish through music, fly fishing, and family travel. And back at home, their porch goose keeps neighbors smiling with its ever changing wardrobe. 🪿
