Hi Friends,

As you may have seen on Wednesday’s post, Echo Mountain is closing on 10/1. Since announcing just 48 hours ago, we have received a lot of inquiries about gear sales. We will be fully operational through September, so we will not be reducing our inventory until that time.

This is a challenging and fast-moving time for our staff. We will likely be selling some gear, but at this point we’re not ready to explore that. Please do not call/email/message regarding gear sales for now. We will make a public announcement when we are prepared to sell gear. Priority will be given to staff, long-time clients, and then the general public.

We appreciate your understanding.

It’s with full hearts and deep gratitude that we share some big news:

Echo Mountain Recording will be closing at the end of 2025.

This decision wasn’t easy, but after almost two decades of making music in this incredible space, we feel this is the right time to step away and close this chapter with intention and pride.

We will remain fully staffed and open for sessions through October 1, 2025. After that, we’ll begin winding down, taking care of our team, liquidating equipment, and preparing the space for its next chapter under GBX Group, who purchased the property in early 2024.

We welcome you to read the full statement on our website.

Echo Mountain has been more than just a recording studio: it’s been a creative home for artists, producers, engineers, and music lovers from all over the world.

We’re beyond proud of the music made within these walls, the Grammy-winning projects, the independent breakthroughs, and the countless moments of magic that happened here.

To our staff, industry friends, and the city of Asheville:
we are incredibly grateful to have worked alongside you to make something special and raise up our music community.

To every artist who trusted us with their music, every team member who helped make this place special, and every supporter who has been part of our journey: thank you.

We’ll be sharing more in the coming months as we celebrate Echo Mountain’s incredible legacy.

Until then, our doors remain open, so contact us to book your sessions.

We look forward to making music with you until the very last note.

-- the Echo Mountain crew

Musician spotlight: Ben Long is an aspiring artist from the 757 area in Virginia. With a handful of demos he sought some professional help to polish his songs with Julian at Echo Mountain. With the two songs he currently has out now, he encapsulates both a singer/songwriter aesthetic as well as a folk rock vibe.

Happy to these two badasses who run our studio: Jessica Tomasin and Talia Service. Without them, Echo Mountain would not have the caliber of client service and quality of production it does today. They are the heart of our operations and they keep our team stronger, together. And if that wasn’t enough, they’re also good humans who tell great jokes. Big love for Jess and Talia. 🫶🏼💪🏼

We are working on finding our way forward after Hurricane Helene here in WNC. While the disaster has faded from the headlines, recovery is far from over. Daily life still involves navigating broken roads and debris, and the situation for many is dire.

We are working on a benefit for our community in Nashville, TN on February, 22nd. Highlights include a multi-course dinner led by award winning chef Sean Brock, a performance and conversation with the legendary T Bone Burnett along with a curated group of his friends, a silent auction and more.

100% of net proceeds benefit WNC Tip It Forward, a relief fund providing critical financial support to local artists and food service workers directly impacted by Hurricane Helene.

If you are in Nashville and can show up, please do. If you have capacity to support with silent auction or sponsorship, please reach out.

Please share with your friends. Link in comments to buy tickets.

We haven't had a chance to post about this since *waves arms around* the Helene chaos, but Princess Goes released several tracks performed at Echo Mountain as bonus content on the deluxe version of their LP, "Come of Age" and we highly recommend checking them out. This month, they also released a visualizer for "Floating" and announced on Giving Tuesday that all proceeds from "Floating" would be donated to BeLoved Asheville.

History

In 2003, Steve Wilmans left California and moved to the mountains of WNC to build his dream studio. He found the perfect place in an old church on the edge of downtown Asheville. The Church was upfitted into a state of the art recording studio while preserving as much of the original decor as possible. The antique wooden doors were split down the middle and soundproofed. The original wall panels were reclaimed and used around the newly built control room, designed by George Auspurger.

In 2006, Steve purchased the neighboring building, which originally housed the Asheville Salvation Army, and built the API Studio. The tracking space is split between two levels, with the control and isolation rooms on the lower level and a large tracking room on the middle floor.
