🏔 Mount Rainier | Washington 🏔

This volcano hike easily takes the top spot for me! 🌋 This 6+ mile round trip trek was as if to walk among a piece of artwork.

Waterfalls… glaciers… towering trees… unique wildlife… you get the picture! Located in Mount Rainier National Park, this natural masterpiece stands at a peak elevation of over 14,000 feet. Allowing it to claim the title of the highest mountain in the state of Washington.

Lodging Recommendation: Gateway Inn at Mount Rainier - Book a private cabin. Located only 50 feet from the Mount Rainier National Park entrance.

Dining Recommendation: The Wildberry Restaurant - Delicious Sherpa-Himalayan cuisine with a summit camp atmosphere.

Rialto Beach, Washington 🌊

After spending a few days in Port Angeles, we decided to take the scenic 7 hour coastal route to Mount Rainier. 🗻

We set off early in the morning to Rialto Beach in order to time the tide just right for a chance to climb over to the “Hole in the Wall”. Little did we know this beach had so much more to offer with its vast beach filled with drift wood and mountain like rock formations emerging from the sea.

However, when we first arrived the fog was so thick you could not see more than 30 feet in front of you while walking the beach. We initially thought we may have driven to the wrong beach since we could not see any of the rock formations in the ocean we had seen pictures of.

Being a bit discouraged, we decided to take some photos around the driftwood since it had quite the beauty of its own. We took a short walk on the beach and heard a sound coming from the water…

What seemed like an eerie Sci-fi movie, a small seal appeared from the fog covered ocean. 🦭It followed my wife and I, watching us in curiosity for a few minutes.

Shortly after the seal disappeared, the fog lifted completely within a matter of minutes exposing the mesmerizing ocean rock formations we had been searching for! The best way I can describe the landscape that unfolded before us is as if we were instantly transported to Pandora from the movie Avatar.

The water had an emerald glow to it and the beach stretched for miles. Once we could see the entire beach, we realized we had walked in the wrong direction to begin with. The Hole in the Rock was an easy 1.5 miles from where we currently were.

With the tide change closing in quickly, we began to run along the coast in order to make the climb in time. We made it with about 20 minutes to spare! We climbed around the side of the rock face in order to reach the Hole in the Wall.

A local hiker saw that we were attempting to make it around the rock face in time and yelled over to us “Turn back! The tide is changing quickly! It’s too dangerous!” However, we were more than halfway around at this point and decided to continue on. It was worth the experience!

Rialto Beach is a MUST visit! 🌊

Hurricane Ridge 🌲 Olympic National Park, Washington

We ended our time in the Port Angeles area hiking Hurricane Ridge found in the mesmerizing Olympic National Park.

At the top of the main trail, you will find an overlook facing Port Angeles, as well as, an incredible view of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. 🇨🇦

This hike was mostly paved with a moderate incline for the majority of the trip. Along the way we saw plenty of active wildlife such as chipmunks, deer, and sooty grouse. 🐿

This is a must for any Olympic Peninsula visit! Special thanks to for the recommendation!

Salt Creek Recreation Area 🌲 Olympic Peninsula, Washington

A short drive from Port Angeles, you will find this gem of a location. This recreation area was once known as Camp Hayden during its time as a World War II military post. You can walk or drive through the military bunkers where you can see the artillery were once positioned.

We parked at the bunker and took a short trail to Tongue Point. If you arrive during the correct tide schedule, you will find many Tide pools with beautiful marine life.

If you plan to climb on the rocks, I recommend making sure you have water shoes or appropriate hiking boots to do so. Well worth the extra adventure if you prepare! 😎🤘

The Spruce Railroad Trail 🌲 Washington

Across from the shores of the Lake Crescent Lodge, you will find this unique railroad trail.

We navigated to one of the railroad tunnels by kayak near the Devils Punch Bowl. After locating a small beach, we grounded our kayaks and climbed up a small rock-faced hill to reach this destination.

This early 1900s railroad was developed in support of the World War I aircraft industry, as a way to transport spruce trees from the western Olympic Peninsula.

Many years later, the railroad was transformed into an activity trail for people like ourselves to enjoy. A few tunnels can be found along the way passing through the mountain side.

Walking through these tunnels is quite eerie at times and looked like what I would imagine ‘s cave looked like pre-billionaire renovation. 🦇

When visiting Port Angeles or other surrounding cities near Lake Crescent, this trail is a MUST visit!

Port Angeles Wharf🌲 Downtown Port Angeles, WA

This waterfront visit led us to some of the most unique, fresh, and delicious ice cream! Welly's Real Fruit Ice Cream was a daily visit for us while in Port Angeles. Even once we returned to the east coast, we still state often how much we crave this New Zealand style treat. The owners Lillie and Jacob were some of the kindest and most appreciative business owners. We looked forward to our brief chats with them each evening about their craft and passion for ice cream.

The Port Angeles Wharf also offers a few onsite restaurants that overlook the water between the United States and Canada. We were bummed the MV Coho ferry was still not in operation due to the pandemic, but look forward to returning one day to cross over to Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. ⛴🇨🇦

I also recommend booking a stay at the Port Angeles Inn. It sits on top of a hill looking into downtown with a set of stairs in the back that will lead you right into the heart of town.

After some enjoyable conversation with a few locals, they informed us you can watch pods of orcas come into the marina to hunt during certain times of the year. Definitely putting some kind of whale experience on our list for next time.

Lake Crescent, Washington: While settling in Port Angeles for a few days to explore the Olympic Peninsula, we spent our first full day in Washington exploring by kayak. The staff at the Lake Crescent Lodge were perfect hosts of this activity and provided us tons of knowledge on where to paddle out to capitalize on our time.

We made our way out to the Devil’s Punch Bowl and despite the insanely cold water temperatures… we jumped off the bridge into the water to check that off our list of experiences! 🥶✌️

Along the coast of the lake is the Spruce Railroad Trail, built in 1918 to harvest and transport aircraft-quality spruce for biplanes in World War I. We parked the kayak on the bank and navigated our way through a few of the tunnels. I’ll post more of this later…

To wrap up our time on the lake, we visited Pirates Cove. The water was much more shallow in this area, exposing fallen trees and many fish. We grounded the kayak here to explore the beach and the surrounding forest.

We could not recommend a visit to Lake Crescent enough!

Antelope Canyon 🏜 Page, Arizona

When visiting Arizona and Utah, these slot type canyons MUST be on your list! They are the most beautiful and unique underground display of smooth color layered walls. You feel as if you’ve transported to another world.

We toured this specific canyon with the highly recommended Dixie’s Lower Antelope Canyon Tours! Our guide absolutely the best, showing us each and every photo opportunity. 📸 She even pointed out which filters on our phone to set to capture the best color for certain areas.

I cannot recommend enough experiencing one of these incredible slot canyons and especially Antelope Canyon! So fellow adventurers, add this to your list and get to planning your trip! 😎🤘
