A proposal to replace the state individual income tax with expanded or increased sales taxes will be on the Aug. 4 ballot and voters will see the description written by lawmakers, a Cole County judge ruled Monday afternoon.

Junior Southern Boone golfer Kaden Massie has lived and breathed golf for most of his life. His competitive nature on the golf course led to five regular-season titles, a district medal and a state medal in his junior season.

Obituary: Patricia Ann Merrill

Merrill attended Elgin R-12 School and graduated from Marshall High School in 1964. She graduated from Ouachita Baptist University, Arkadelphia, AR, in 1968 with a BS in Mathematics and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1974 with an MS in Mathematics, with additional study at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, and the University of Missouri in Columbia.

Her fifty-year teaching career began at Van-Far R-1 High School, Vandalia, MO, and continued at Bel Air High School, Bel Air, MD, and 28 years at Southern Boone County R-1 High School, Ashland, MO.

Following her retirement from So-Bo-Co, she became an adjunct professor for Moberly Area Community College and Central Methodist University. She also tutored for Focus On Learning. With her high school classes, she always made herself available for free tutoring before and after school, and with her college students, she offered free tutoring at local supermarkets after the dinner hour on Sundays. She was always invested in the success of her students.

She was a dedicated Christian from an early age. She was a summer missionary in Wyoming for the SBC and worked at Glorieta Baptist Assembly in New Mexico during another summer.

She was a long-time member of the Wooldridge Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and served as the pianist and organist. She and her husband had the privilege of singing in the choir at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. for the U.S. Bicentennial Service in 1976.
