THE CHAIR ON THE VERANDA DOES NOT ROCK ITSELF!
HALLOWEEN IN ATHENS TRUMPS HAJOS ONCE AGAIN.
A specter haunts the front lawn of the Augustus Longstree Hull home, once on Dearing at the SE corner with Milledge. The home was later rotated to face Milledge, leaving our disoriented spirit appearing in the moonlight, sometimes staring across Milledge towards the Phi Mu house, sometimes staring out to Dearing towards the Sylvanus Morris house. Might Morris have suspected that she channeled some malevolence from his deceased rival in Athens history writing, A.L. Hull? Sadly the home was demolished and now she manifests herself in the Morgan Stanley parking lot on moonlit nights, forever seeking her chair.
For many years the replacing structure was called "The Medical Arts Building" - leading my late brother Rob to ask: is that where they make those little wooden statues of doctors in lab coats or playing golf that you see in waiting rooms?
Real life (almost) horror. Milton Leathers told me that he was in high school when the Hull house was being demolished and he asked about the magnificent wooden columns laying on the ground. The demolition team leader said he could have them if he wanted them, so Milton set about to organize a truck and team of friends to haul some of them (there were 12) to his parents' house. That without consulting his parents, of course. As Milton commented, fortunately for him and his parents the truck was not available.
