Announcing the “Onward and Upward” 2025 Capital Fund Drive - a $10,000 Matching Donation Opportunity!

We’re excited to launch the Kentucky Steam Heritage Corporation’s 2025 Capital Fund Drive — and thanks to a generous group of donors, every dollar you give will be matched up to $10,000. That means your contribution goes twice as far to support our mission.

Kentucky Steam is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to preserving Kentucky’s railroading heritage, educating the public, and driving economic growth in Eastern Kentucky. Since 2016, our all-volunteer team has worked to transform the former CSX rail yard in Ravenna into a hub for heritage, tourism, and community events.

In 2025, your support will help us:

• Continue EPA Brownfield cleanup and redevelopment of our 40-acre campus
• Advance key projects funded by the AMLER Grant, including new track, facility upgrades, and the R. J. Corman Railroad Group “Glass House” pavilion
• Move forward with restoration of Chesapeake & Ohio 2716
• Pursue Kentucky-based excursion train rides

While grants support specific infrastructure projects, they do not fund daily operations. The Capital Fund Drive helps cover essential expenses like utilities, supplies, volunteer support, and public events such as:

• Easter and Christmas Trains and Festivals
• Ravenna Railroad Festival
• Annual Steam Whistle Blow

Your tax-deductible donation directly supports these efforts and helps us grow as a regional destination. And with our $10,000 matching pledge, your impact will be doubled.

Pretty cool to see BNSF Railway donating a “modern” locomotive like this to a museum!

We're thrilled to announce that BNSF Railway has donated SD70MAC number 9400, the locomotive that pioneered AC traction for freight service when it was built in 1993, to IRM for preservation. This locomotive was the forerunner of thousands of engines built with AC traction motors in the years since.
