Live in Athens, GA 04/25/2026
by Orcus
HV53 - CD-R edition of 40
This was the first (and so far only) performance and recording of a new women's improvisational drone collective including multi-instrumentalist librarians, web developers, digital archivists and catalogers: Rashaun Ellis (improvised clarinet and e-bowed bass), Rachel Evans (cello, electronics, gong, and vocals), Leslie Grove (synthesizers and assorted auxiliary percussion), Stacy Harvey (improvised flute), and Mandy Mastrovita (bells, amplified buddha machine, chimes, toy piano, and tuning forks). The group have been friends for years, and collaborated in a variety of professional and artistic ways. On this latest creative endeavor, the crew honed their shared fascination with deep space, astrology and a yin-yang energy in search of feminine balance through sound-scape, print culture (including a group drawn visual score/sound map and printed bodhidharma), and costumed expression. Complete with black robes and masks, both painted and lacey, they donned the stage in a semi-circle with incense and magickal intention, and performed in front of a backdrop of slow motion galaxy footage captured by the James Webb Space Telescope. Channeling equal parts Popol vuh, Coil, Sun O))), and Pedestrian Deposit, the group has more performances and mixed recordings from practices forthcoming.
This recording was captured by Mandy Mastrovita the night of April 25, 2026, at Work.shop at Echo Base in Athens, GA.
