ODYSSEY Media Group Keeping Central informed since 2003. Each production is an open public forum for student expression under the guidance of a faculty adviser.

The ODYSSEY Media Group is a multi-platform publication group, which consists of a student-produced newsmagazine, website, broadcast team, literary-art magazine and social media outlets. Works are published with the intent to inform, entertain and give voice to the Clarke Central High School community, as well as to educate student journalists and artists. Student journalists are provided with op

portunities to investigate, inform, interpret and to evaluate: all traditionally accepted functions of the press in America. The ODYSSEY was established in 2003 and publishes across platform. Published opinions do not necessarily reflect the views of anyone other than the staff. The ODYSSEY staff is committed to reflect the mission statement set forth by Clarke Central High School. The goals of the staff are to provide fair, accurate news and commentaries, as well as to serve the interests of the school and Athens’ community. Advertising must conform to the guidelines set forth for editorials. Publication of advertisements does not indicate an endorsement by CCHS or the ODYSSEY staff. Students pictured in advertisements are not given monetary compensation. All advertising rates are available upon request from any ODYSSEY staff member. The ODYSSEY is a member of the Quill and Scroll Honor Society, Georgia Scholastic Press Association, Columbia Scholastic Press Association, National Scholastic Press Association and Southern Interscholastic Press Association.

The Clarke County School District announced all school-level Support Teachers and Professionals of the Year in a press release on Tuesday, Sept. 9. Clarke Central High School’s TOTY is specail education department teacher Juanita Nash and the SPOTY is Multi-Classroom Leader Lawanna Knight. “The administration team surprised (Nash and Knight) earlier today in their classes and the student response to both was heartwarming,” CCHS Asscociate Principal Summer Smith said. “We are proud that they will represent CCHS in the district competition. The Clarke Central High School varsity softball team defeated Oglethorpe County High School 11-3 on Sept. 8 at CCHS. The North Oconee High School varsity football team defeated Clarke Central High School 40-0 on Friday, Sept. 5 in Billy Henderson Stadium. CCHS varsity football offensive lineman Kaleb Humphrey, a senior, went into the game hoping to step up as a leader, regardless of the score. “The mindset going into the game was remembering (that NOHS) bleeds just like we bleed,” Humphrey said. “It’s OK if we messed up, (I) just gotta better my craft and be more of a leader (by) picking people up.” Photos by Iliana Tejada, story by Edie Ash

The Clarke Central High School 2025 Homecoming Dance,“Harlem Nights,” will take place on Friday, Sept. 20, from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. in the CCHS Crawford Gym. Permission forms had to be received from students and turned into the front office prior to the purchase of tickets and guests will not be permitted to enter the event without prior approval. “All guests must accompany a CCHS student. The Clarke Central High School varsity and junior varsity volleyball teams will play against Banks County High School and Stephen’s County High School at BCHS on Sept. 4. In recent years, more debates have risen regarding how to balance personal safety and federal law admits the increasing gun violence rates within Georgia. Of the 50 most common laws used to prevent gun violence, Georgia has passed four and citizens are not required to undergo background checks to secure permits to purchase a handgun. “As our society has gotten more complicated, we have basically, as a culture, placed fi****ms at the altar,” Spencer Frye, Georgia State Representative for House District 122, said. Clarke Central High School senior Zayeed Delane holds a whiteboard giving his advice to freshmen.
