Members of the ODYSSEY Media Group and the iliad Literary-Art Magazine gathered in Room 231 for a press conference with CCHS and OMG alumni Robert Walker, Dallace Thomas, Eva Orbock and Ireland McCage on July 23. Senior Copy EditorCooper Jones, a rising senior, attended the conference and gained insights from the alumni panel. “They were all talking about how ODYSSEY (and iliad) translated into all of their careers. Them being on so many different paths and all agreeing on that was pretty impactful,”Jones said. “They have a lot of advice because they’ve already been through it all.”

The Clarke County School District approved the promotion of Clarke Central High School Instructional Coach Alexis Scott to the role of assistant principal at its June 12 meeting. Scott was a math department teacher at Flowery Branch High School, Foothills Charter School and Banks County High School before starting in her IC role at CCHS in 2021. “I am so excited to continue serving the students, families, and faculty of Clarke Central as a new assistant principal,” Scott said in a June 12 CCSD press release. “I promise to bring the same level of enthusiasm and dedication to my new role that I had during my time as an instructional coach. The Gladiator community is one that I hold dear, and I am thrilled to continue to be a part of it in this new capacity.” Photo fair use of the CCSD, story by Lea D’Angelo

An Athens community member watches the parade at PrideFest 2025: From Athens, with Pride, which was hosted by the Athens Pride and Q***r Collective on June 7. APQC Community Outreach Director Ida Barrett felt that recent changes in the political climate affected the atmosphere of this year’s PrideFest. “The LGBTQI community is under attack, (so) the vibe of today is a little heavier. We really want to showcase the breadth of the support directly within Athens,” Barrett said. “A big goal of today is that people feel hope. They feel connected to each other (and) to (APQC), and inspired to do the work that’s going to be required of us throughout this administration.” Story by Sasha Barkan, Photos by Lucca Fleenor and Sasha Barkan

Two Clarke Central High School seniors take a picture before the CCHS 2025 Graduation Ceremony on May 22 in the E.B. Mell Auditorium. For CCHS Class of 2025 graduate Corey Watkins, graduation offered a chance to reflect on his four years at CCHS. “My favorite memory (at CCHS) was the football game versus Oconee (County High School) my senior year. All of the emotion and stuff we had to do to overcome the score (and win) was just wonderful,” Watkins said. Photos by Kye Streetman and Iliana Tejada, story by Liya Taylor

This year, the iliad Literary-Art magazine graduated three seniors while the OMG graduated seven, including Capcha, who served as a Sports Staffer during his time in the program. “Graduating felt surreal because it marked the last time I’d see the people I’ve called classmates and friends over the past decade,” Capcha said. “I’ll miss the culture the OMG has and how it pushes you to keep doing work.” Photos by Iliana Tejada and courtesy of David Ragsdale, story by Liya Taylor

CCHS Class of 2025 graduate Juanita Langa-Attipoe moved to Athens from London two years ago and recognized the differences between her previous school and CCHS. “It felt great to walk across the stage. In London, we don’t have (ceremonies like today), so it was exciting,” Langa-Attipoe said. “I’ve enjoyed everything. It’s really different from high school in London. I’m going to miss it.” Photos by Kye Streetman and Iliana Tejada, story by Liya Taylor
