The Red & Black

The Red & Black The independent student news org serving the University of Georgia and Athens communities. Since 1893 The Red and Black Publishing Company, Inc.

is an independent, private, not-for-profit corporation. Founded in 1893, the paper operated for 87 years under the University of Georgia. In 1980, the State Board of Regents approved independent status for the organization. The Red & Black circulates the largest college newspaper in Georgia. Each week we distribute 10,000 copies of the print edition both on and off campus, reaching nearly 45,000 s

tudents, faculty and staff. The print edition — and daily online content, which reaches 60,000 uses a week — cover University of Georgia and Athens news, sports, arts, music, culture and opinion pieces. The Red and Black is operationally and financially independent from the University of Georgia. The organization receives no student activity fees or other funding from UGA. Operations are sustained through the sale of advertising. Our twofold mission is to provide a training ground for students interested in gaining experience in various aspects of media and to provide a high quality news source for the University of Georgia community.
