DECATUR — Bryson Baker has been consistent all season when speaking of District 3-2A: it’s going to be a dogfight every single time the ball is tipped.

Tuesday against rival Sweetwater, the physicality between the whistles proved that point to be true.

But on the scoreboard, Meigs was the only one doing any of the fighting.

The Lady Tigers shut down the visitors’ paint-heavy offense, dominated the glass and made timely shots en route to a 61-36 blowout victory at Meigs County High School Tuesday in Decatur.

To McMinn Central head golf coach Daniel Curtis, Landon Harris’ prep career is evidence of where hard work can lead you.

By Harris’ own admission, he had a rough freshman season. But he took the chance to reassess in the offseason, challenged himself to be better and turned in a historic three years to follow in which he won several tournaments outright and advanced to the state tournament.

Harris signed to continue his golf career at Pellissippi State Community College Wednesday, another stamp of evidence along the way of Harris’ hard work.

KNOXVILLE — McMinn County had closed within two points early in the third quarter, and then it all fell apart.

Farragut ripped off a 30-7 run that extended into the fourth quarter, and the Cherokees walked out of Farragut High School with a 71-49 loss in District 4-4A play Tuesday to the hosting Admirals, which extended their losing streak to five games.

DECATUR — Before the season, Meigs County head coach Sammy Perkinson thought District 3-2A to be a battle for second place.

If Friday’s game against expected district champion and state-ranked No. 2 Tellico Plains is any indicator, the Tigers might just be battling for first.

Meigs battled all the way back from a 16 point deficit to trail 52-51 with five minutes left, playing within a possession for much of the fourth quarter. But as the Tigers ran out of gas against the lengthy Bears late, Tellico found a second wind to win 72-61 in Decatur Friday.

CLEVELAND — McMinn County simply could not score the basketball on the road against its old rival.

For most of the game, the Tribe remained in it because of its defensive effort. But all the host Bears needed was a third quarter spurt and McMinn couldn’t answer the Bradley flurry in a 55-45 loss at Jim Smiddy Arena Saturday evening.

Four area players earned recognition from coaches and/or sportswriters across the state of Tennessee for their excellence on the gridiron in 2025.

McMinn County’s Camden Goforth was named Class 5A All-State and Meigs County’s Tuff Ricker earned a Class 3A All-State nod by both the Tennessee Football Coaches Association (TNFCA) and the Tennessee Sports Writers Association (TSWA), and Meigs County’s Peyton Standridge and Kaiden Brewster joined that duo with TSWA All-State recognition in Class 3A.

The final score may not have shown it, but head coach Derika Jenkins came away from McMinn County’s run-in with one of the state’s top-ranked basketball teams with some positives moving forward.

The Lady Cherokees had their moments before Bearden’s physical advantage simply proved too much in a 76-38 loss Friday at McMinn County High School. The Lady Bulldogs, a Class 4A state semifinalist last year, debuted in the Tennessee Sports Writers Association (TSWA) poll the following Monday ranked No. 2 in 4A.
