Tennessee Wesleyan's 21-3 win set a new record for the largest margin of victory in an NAIA World Series championship game. (The previous record was all the way back in 1958, a 23-9 win by San Diego State back when it was an NAIA school.)

The Bulldogs' 22 hits tonight are also an NAIA championship game record. (The previous record was 21, also by San Diego State back in 1958).

The Red Banner is headed back to Athens!!! TWU Baseball wins the 2026 Avista NAIA World Series in convincing fashion, defeating #1 seed Taylor University 21-3.

The Athens Soap Box Derby is still going strong heading into its 31st running.

A field of 20 racers among three divisions — Stocks, Super Stocks and Super Kids — will take Keith Lane in competition Saturday, with practice at 8 a.m. before they start racing at 9 a.m.

While the derby still has not gone back up to pre-pandemic numbers, Soap Box Derby director Austin Fesmire noted that is a general trend across the country and Athens’ event is still solidly in the middle of the pack size-wise. And most of the racers in this year’s running are from McMinn County and surrounding counties.

Daylen Spradling is looking to help out local kids in his first offseason as a college basketball player.

The former McMinn County and McMinn Central guard graduated in 2025 and finished his freshman year at Johnson University in May, where he took a medical redshirt after surgery on a lingering ankle injury.

Now back on the court, Spradling is offering one-on-one training sessions to local athletes to help sharpen the craft of players in the area.

#8 seed stays alive in the Avista NAIA World Series after beating #9 seed IU Southeast 🔟-3⃣. Allan Gil Fernandez (4-5, 2B, HR), Rob Gordon, and David Ballenilla each had 2 RBIs. Colton Brumley got the pitching win and Bradley Johnson got a save. TWU will play again on Thursday at 6:00 PM ET.

Joshua Lockmiller grew up looking up to those who played soccer at Tennessee Wesleyan University, and now he has the chance to follow in their footsteps.

The McMinn County senior signed a letter of intent to continue his education in Athens and his soccer career with the Bulldogs during a ceremony April 2 at McMinn County High School.

Todd Humbert said his life was forever changed in the wrestling program at McMinn County High School.

On the mat, Humbert had a successful wrestling career; off the mat, Humbert said his teammate introduced him to Jesus.

After years of being around the program, including the last several as an assistant, Humbert gets the chance to lead the program he came through as a teenager. The 2001 McMinn County High School graduate was named head wrestling coach May 19.
