University of Georgia Press Founded in 1938, UGA Press publishes 60-70 new books a year with more than 1,800 titles in print.

Since its founding in 1938, the primary mission of the University of Georgia Press has been to support and enhance the University’s place as a major research institution by publishing outstanding works of scholarship and literature by scholars and writers throughout the world. The Press is the oldest and largest scholarly publisher within the University System of Georgia and has been a full member

of the Association of American University Presses since 1940. With a full-time staff of 26 publishing professionals, the Press currently publishes 60-70 new books a year and has 1800 titles in print. In 2008 the Press received the Governor’s Award in the Humanities “for enriching the life of the humanities through a distinguished record of publications, for serving as an important resource to libraries and other community discussion groups, and for building partnerships that contribute to enlightened communities of readers in Georgia and the nation.”

Applications are open for the Georgia Humanities fall grant cycle!

Grants of up to $2,500 are available to Georgia-based nonprofits to support public programs that engage communities in conversation, learning, and exchange. Apply by: September 30, 2025.

And new this cycle, we're also introducing a special America250 opportunity. With support from the America250 Commission and other federal partners, we welcome proposals that mark the nation's 250th anniversary. Think programs that explore the ideas that sparked the Revolution, the challenges that followed, and the legacies that still shape civic life.
