Centering the birthdyad is a cornerstone of my practice. I believe deeply in the connection between you & your baby and I will always respect both of your innate needs to be together. This looks like ensuring you never have to take your hands off your baby if you don’t want to! That means newborn exams done right beside (or on 😜) you, while your family watches and feeds you freshly grown watermelon.

It’s that time of year again. 11/11. My . Fourteen wild years of answering the call of birth, holding space, witnessing the growth of my community, being the student and the teacher. The watcher, the waiter, the listener, the truster, the guard.

I owe the deepest gratitude to the families that choose me and to the birthing dyad that allows me to be present to the magic of their sacred birth dance.

My entire “why” is right here in this snapshot.

The birth dyad. The most ancient dyad of all time. The place where it all begins and ends. I will never grow tired of the privilege of being your midwife.

{Mystery lies in metamorphosis. Motherhood is metamorphosis. Mystery therefore is found in motherhood.} The Linea Nigra has always fascinated me. How it slowly presents down the ripening belly of a mama in full bloom like the matrilineal strands of our collective DNA present themselves on the universal loom, slowly weaving stardust and spirit into form.
Literally meaning the dark line, it is one of the most familiar sights marking the round belly of many a mother. I'm always sad to watch it fade away. The line that slowly darkens follows the Linea Alba, which is the white line between the recti muscles of the abdomen.
The occurs due to increased pregnancy hormones and adrenal hormones that may (the exact physiological reason remains obscure. 😏) cause increased skin pigmentation. Oftentimes the and ***a darken too! (We'll talk about that soon!) Not all women will have the line too! The presence of the line is directly related to the amount of in your skin. The increased pregnancy hormones act on the melanin causing ! There is some evidence to suggest that folic acid deficiency can cause hyperpigmentation. Some midwives swear that the darker the line the more folic acid is needed by the mother. It is neat to think that our bodies do indeed communicate with us by presenting visual signs to indicate what is needed or not needed. I know that I use the in birth all the time 🙌🏼 So tell me, did you have the Linea Nigra? Did you love it? Hate it? Did it go away? I'm still rocking my faded line 8.5 months !

The art of midwifery embraces many lost but powerful practices.

The art of deep listening, of holding the edges of liminal space so that you can go through the center and back. The beautiful skill of palpating a round, swollen with life belly…hands like eyes peering into the uterus telling the story of how a baby is positioned inside. The forgotten importance of walking alongside someone while they are doing hard work but not trying to do it for them, and the hanging sling scale….a baby wrapped snug in soft fabric, suspended by a brass scale, toes peeking out as everyone holds their breath anxiously awaiting to hear the weight of this new little human.

Midwifery weaves human stories, the sacredness of life, and the magic of science into an art as old as human creation. And the parts of it are just as beautiful as the whole of it. 📸 :

Hi friends and families!

I’m sure you all know that businesses thrive when happy customers share their experiences!

Community midwives are often found via word of mouth and many of you have found me through the community.

After being in private practice since 2017…I have one review on Google!

If you feel called…would any of you who have sought me out for midwifery care…would you kindly leave a little review for the practice??

We are so sorry to hear this news from Michel Odent's family.

"It is with great sorrow that the family of Dr Michel Odent announce his death at the age of 95. Dr Odent was born July 7, 1930, in Bresles, France. He died peacefully in London, England, on August 19, 2025 following a brief illness.

Dr Odent trained as a general surgeon in Paris, and advocated for the demedicalisation of birth whilst in charge of Pithiviers Hospital. In later life, he founded the Primal Health Research Centre in London, and published extensively on topics related to childbirth and early breastfeeding.

He is survived by many loved ones, including his partner Liliana, and children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His family wishes to express their thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to La Leche League. Dr Odent will be cremated in a private family service with a public memorial to follow in several weeks."

A low interventionist approach to prenatal care and birth in healthy, low risk pregnancies is scientific!

If you look at scientific literature, you find over and over again that many interventions increase risk to mother and child instead of decreasing it.

Laughing Midwifery will be on sabbatical this summer for the first time since 2018 and the remainder of the year is filling up quickly with December babies making themselves known. In the last year a few more midwifery options have come to our area, so reach out even if I’m full as I can hopefully connect you with another midwife!
