This is a true day of freedom that finally arrived where it had been deliberately delayed.

On June 19, 1865, in Galveston, Texas,🤠 Union General Gordon Granger read General Order No. 3: the 250,000 enslaved Black people in the state. It was the last major held slaves that were free. This came two and a half years after Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation (1863) and over two months after the Confederacy surrendered!

Slaveholders had ignored the law, moved people deeper into Texas to keep them in chains, and withheld the news as long as they could. The order ended legal slavery there, but it also told the newly freed to work for their former owners for wages. It revealed how incomplete “freedom” really was.

Emancipation wasn’t a clean moment of national virtue. It was a hard-won enforcement against resistance. Juneteenth honors the joy of liberation and exposes the gap between declared rights and lived reality much like today. We all stand together ✊🏿✊🏻 to close that gap that continues long after sharecropping, Black Codes, Jim Crow laws and violence.

It’s still literally America’s most honest Independence Day🎉...so celebrate...but we know some of y'all...keep it in bounds...don't give ANYONE a reason to "blow the whistle"👮🏽‍♂️

This Moment Matters!

From June 16 to November 3...our neighbors and fellow Georgians in Columbia and Richmond Counties…We stand at a crossroads right now. This week isn’t just another election, it’s about who we are and what kind of future we’re willing to fight for. On Tuesday, June 16th, we have a critical runoff in Georgia’s 12th Congressional District. We proudly endorse Ceretta Anita Smith to be our next voice in Washington.

Then, bright and early on Wednesday, June 17th, the Georgia Legislature goes into special session on redistricting🗺. This is serious. Our communities in Columbia and Richmond Counties are growing, especially our Black and diverse neighborhoods. We cannot allow maps that dilute our voices or crack our communities apart. Fair representation isn’t a favor — it’s our constitutional right.🙅🏾‍♂️

Strong dem opportunity districts helped us make progress✊🏿✊🏻, and we must protect and expand that power, so every family has a real seat at the table. Racial equity🫱🏻‍🫲🏿 in our democracy means every vote counts equally and every neighborhood matters. This fight doesn’t stop with Congress. It flows straight down to our State House. TODAY is World Environment Day + Pride Month + Absentee Vote= POWER. Today let's celebrate World Environment Day as it also marks the LAST DAY to request your absentee ballot for the June 16 Runoff Election.

This is no coincidence. It’s a powerful alignment about the world, pride, and being anywhere in the world to show! Today highlights "intersectionality". The kids and the campaign is on the move!

The Columbia County Chamber Foundation presents the Evans, Georgia College and Career Expo (also called the Columbia County Career & College Expo)👩🏼‍🏫

This is an annual free event at the Columbia County Exhibition Center in Grovetown/Evans area, aimed at high school and middle school students exploring colleges, careers, and workforce opportunities. It’s affiliated with the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce. When we protect children this is what "boots on ground" looks like! The goal is to turn our youth into contributions to society to surpass us. Shot out to all the opportunities that came out because investing in our youth first is what makes us great already!
