Florida officially has joined the growing list of states now allowing access for high school athletes to profit on their name, image and likeness.

The Florida High School Athletic Association voted unanimously Tuesday to approve a policy allowing high school athletes to profit from NIL in certain circumstances. It’s the 36th state to allow NIL in high school athletics in some form or fashion.

Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) deals are coming to Florida high school sports, after Tuesday's vote from the FHSAA board of directors.

🚨 May has gotten off to a very litigious start. The NCAA and conferences are deep in settlement talks with attorneys representing the plaintiffs in House vs. NCAA.

If the NCAA chooses to take the case to trial next January, it could owe $4.2 BILLION 🤯 to thousands of athletes in retroactive NIL pay and broadcast revenue, a bill that could financially cripple the organization.

If a settlement is reached beforehand, the NCAA and power conferences could still owe athletes more than $1 BILLION and, more significantly, would almost certainly usher in a future model that includes revenue sharing.

On Wednesday, Meta announced its second iteration of an NIL education program — called “NIL Empower 2.0” — aimed at helping women’s sports athletes get the most out of their Facebook and Instagram accounts and develop post-college careers.

“It would’ve been really easy for Meta to take 30 Power 5 quarterbacks,” Oglethorpe volleyball player Laney Higgins told FOS. “But instead, they had a vision for empowering 30 female student-athletes.”

The social media giant will provide education to 30 women’s sports athletes.
