leaders are introducing a slate of practical relief measures to help families manage rising living costs, from wiping out $16,530 in student meal debt to expanding food access and housing support.

The initiatives include countywide meal debt forgiveness for 1,818 students, new holiday food distributions, mobile produce markets, and a $5.5 million investment in housing stability services.

Officials say the aim is to deliver immediate assistance while reinforcing long-term support systems for residents.

DeKalb County is paying off all outstanding student meal debt, including $16,530 in unpaid school meal balances, eliminating debt for 1,818 students districtwide.
