In the meantime, let's get some clarity on the dispute about who is and isn't the "Original" Indigenous people of the Americas. I am so sick and tired of folks falling for the false history that was taught here in the Americas. I am Afro/indigenous and a Proud member of the Monacan Indian Nation, a Federally Recognized tribe. We jumped through many hoops to obtain state and Federally Recognized Status. The People in our small tribe have known each other's families for generations, and to be accepted, I had to prove my relationship to my Native Ancestors.
But the arguments now are about who was the first to arrive here in the Americas, and folks are calling names like pretend Indians. America is a Continent, not a Country, and it spans from the northernmost point of Kaffeklubben Island, off the coast of Greenland, to the southernmost point of the mainland, Cape Froward, Chile.
My maternal DNA line traces back to Mumia Juanita, a mummified child of Inca descent, who dates back to approximately 1540. My paternal grandfather's DNA is the oldest in Columbia, South America, meaning they are indigenous to that region. They were dark-skinned people, and their DNA traces are found in the Middle East, Asia, India, Australia, Melanesia, the Solomon Islands, and eventually entered South America. You should all be aware that the borders were porous and non-existent back then (or you should be). Others came over the Siberian Peninsula and settled in the Northern regions of the Americas.
Social media can disseminate information, but you should exercise enough caution to verify and reverify your facts. With the distorted history we learn here, it is no surprise that people are ignorant. It took me over 30 years of researching and documenting my family history, which was hidden away in coded language. The ancestors were re-designated as Mulatto, Colored Negro, and Black, but never African. I have one identifiable African and a bunch of white folks on my tree branch, and the rest are Native. One of my books is entitled Black Minqua: The Life and Times of Henry Green who was Native but identified by Europeans as Mulatto or black. They were the Black Minqua, a branch of the Susquehanna Indian Nation.
There were dark and copper-colored Natives who, after Europeans arrived, were forced to intermarry with them. They did the same thing in Africa and
everywhere else they landed. I cannot believe that folks are saying they are going to sue someone who said they were Native! Shame on them because there is no patent or copyright on who is Native. If you take them to court and lose they can turn around and sue you. You better have something other than that, Africans were not here before Columbus. Without any proof! Do you believe that the schools would teach you the truth, especially the Catholic School? These are the same folks who think that African Americans are immigrants! smdh
