Honoring my mother this Women’s History Month — a trailblazer, a servant leader, and a living legacy.

A member of the University of Virginia’s historic Class of 1974, she helped integrate the university for women and became its first Afro-American Studies graduate. From Legal Aid attorney to Senior Assistant City Attorney, she built a career rooted in justice, access, and impact.

As producer and host, she used television (The Law and You, Focus on the Black Perspective) to educate our community, led the Old Dominion Bar Association as president, helped revitalize historic Black neighborhoods in Richmond, VA, and spent over a decade supporting lawyers through mental health advocacy.

Award-winning. Community-centered. Legacy-building.

But to me, she’s Mom.
The one who showed me what excellence, integrity, and purpose look like every day.

Because of her, I understand that service is not a title; instead, it’s a way of life.

In the words of my mother, I’m a day late and a dollar short, but admiring, loving, and honoring .a.burton doesn’t have an expiration date. For my Queen. Love you today and everyday.

Honoring Power, Purpose, and Presence

This Women’s History Month, we celebrate Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, a fearless advocate, brilliant legal mind, and unapologetic voice for justice.

From the courtroom to Capitol Hill, she represents a new generation of leadership rooted in courage, clarity, and community. Whether speaking truth to power or championing policies that uplift marginalized voices, Crockett embodies what it means to lead with both intellect and intention.

Her work reminds us that representation isn’t just about being seen; it’s about being heard, respected, and impactful.

Here’s to the women shaping policy, shifting culture, and standing firmly in their purpose.
