What if your backyard did more than just look good? 🌻
Across Georgia, more homeowners are rethinking their landscapes, trading high-maintenance lawns for spaces that work with the environment instead of against it. The shift starts with simply paying attention. Where does the sun hit? Where does water collect? How does the space actually get used? From there, small changes begin to add up.
Here's how to start:
🌱 Observe first. Spend time understanding your yard's sunlight, drainage, and natural patterns before making changes.
🌱 Capture rainwater. Use rain barrels or rain gardens to slow runoff and keep water on your property.
🌱 Build better soil. Let leaves and plant debris break down naturally, and choose deep-rooted natives to improve soil structure over time.
🌱 Plant native. Start small, plant in clusters, and choose species suited to your yard's light and moisture conditions. Check out the State Botanical Garden of Georgia's annual list of the best pollinator plants to add to your garden.
🌱 Rethink maintenance. Skip harsh chemicals, as most pests can be managed with simple, low-impact solutions.
🌱 Water with intention. Focus on deep, infrequent watering based on need, not a fixed schedule.
🌱 Let it live. Mow less, leave seed heads, and create space for birds, bees, and butterflies to thrive.
The payoff is a landscape that feels alive - one that invites wildlife in while asking less of you over time. 🐞
