The LSAT. Socratic method. Case briefs. Cold calling. IRAC (or CRAC). The Bar Exam.

If you’re an aspiring law student, current law student, JD, or attorney, these words are all too familiar. The three (or four years) of law school seem like an eternity when you’re in it, but in reality, it is a small span of time. What do you do after? And will you have all the tools you’ll need once it’s all over?

Join us next week as we take a deep dive into our personal experiences as young lawyers. Special guests and friends of ours, Makeda Gibson and Orlando Sheppard, join us as we discuss “Law School: Beyond the Books.” Available Wednesday, November 18 at 9am! 💕👑✨

Makeda Gibson, Esq. is a Florida A&M University College of Law graduate who has dedicated her career to advocating for artists and entertainers. As a Legal & Business Affairs professional she has worked with music festivals, recording artists and social media influencers. Orlando Sheppard, Esq. () is a proud graduate of Florida A&M University College of Law. He is the co-founder and Partner at Burns Sheppard Favors () where he heads the firm’s Personal Injury department. He is currently licensed to practice in Florida and Maryland.

Today is Election Day! Have you voted yet?

Yesterday was the 100th anniversary of the Ocoee Massacre, a dark day in American history. On November 2, 1920, the day of the U.S. Presidential election, a white mob attacked the Black residents of Ocoee, FL, in an attempt to suppress African American votes. Between 30-35 people were killed, and most African American-owned buildings were burned to the ground. The massacre has been described as “the single bloodiest day in modern American political history.”

In this snippet from last week’s episode, “Becoming,” Annie and Dani discuss a portion of Michelle Obama’s documentary, where she expressed her and Barack’s disappointment in how few African American voters showed up to the polls for midterms. They had sacrificed so much to get to the White House, only to feel snubbed in the end because people did not exercise their right to vote.

We find it particularly important today, Election Day 2020, to remind our listeners of how many have sacrificed, some making the ultimate sacrifice, for us to have the right to make our voices heard. Make sure that, if you have not already, you make a plan to vote today. Check where your assigned precinct is, grab a blanket/snacks (and most importantly, a mask 😷) and head to the polls! And if you encounter any suspected voter suppression, dial the Election Protection Hotline at 1-866-OUR-VOTE (1-866-687-8683). 👑✨💕
