Misconception #4: “The faster my book is published, the better.”

Everybody wants to see the finished book, so it is natural to ask, “How quickly can we get it published?”

But faster does not always mean better.

Editing matters. Proofreading matters. Formatting matters. Cover design matters. Final review matters. These stages are not designed simply to slow the process down—they help prepare your book to represent your message well and provide readers with a quality experience.

At Because There’s More Publishing, each book moves through multiple stages of preparation and review before release.

No matter whom you choose to work with, ask more than how quickly your book can go live. Ask what will be done to ensure it is truly ready when it does.

Published is not always the same as publication-ready.

Misconception #3: “Once I make the payment, I’m on my own.”

You submitted your manuscript. You signed the agreement. Now what?

For many authors—especially first-time authors—the publishing process is unfamiliar. You may wonder what happens after editing, when you will see your cover, what you will need to review, and how long each stage may take.

That is why clear and consistent communication matters.

Before choosing a publishing company or service, ask:

• How does the publishing process work?
• What are the key stages?
• When will I be asked to review or approve something?
• How will I receive updates about my book?

At Because There’s More Publishing, authors are guided through the publishing process and participate at key stages.

No matter whom you choose to work with, you should not have to guess what is happening with your own book. You deserve to know what happens next.

Misconception #2: “The price they quote is never what I actually end up paying.”

“I thought that was included.”

Those can become expensive words during the publishing process.

Sometimes additional work is legitimately needed. The concern is whether the author clearly understood the included services, project scope, and potential additional costs from the beginning.

Before signing a publishing agreement, ask:

• What is included in the quoted price?
• What is not included?
• What could cost extra?
• How will I be notified before additional work begins?

At Because There’s More Publishing, included services are identified in the publishing agreement. Work outside the agreed scope is discussed separately.

No matter whom you choose, know what you are paying for before the publishing process begins. Clarity protects your budget, expectations, and publishing experience.

Publishing a book comes with a lot of questions. That is why, over the next two weeks, we are talking about Publishing Misconceptions. We are starting with this one:

“If I work with a publishing company, will they own my book?”

The answer depends on the agreement.

Before you sign with any publishing company or service, slow down and read the agreement.

Ask who owns your manuscript, which rights you are granting, how long those rights last, and what happens if you decide to leave.

At Because There’s More Publishing, authors retain ownership of their work. Your book matters too much to make assumptions about the fine print.

🎉 We’re wrapping up Jeffrey Vansant’s Author Spotlight Week!

This week, we introduced Jeffrey, shared the heart behind his writing, and highlighted the individuals, families, ministries, and recovery communities his new devotional was created to encourage.

Proverbial Wisdom for Recovery offers readers 31 days of Scripture, practical wisdom, reflection, and prayer as they navigate the work of healing and rebuilding.

As we head into the weekend, we leave you with this reminder:

You do not have to complete the entire journey today. You only have to remain willing to take the next faithful step.

Consider purchasing a copy for yourself, sharing one with someone you love, or introducing the devotional to a church, ministry, support group, or recovery community.

Please join us once again in congratulating Jeffrey Vansant on the release of his newest book.

We're continuing with our spotlight on Jeffrey Vansant and his book, Proverbial Wisdom for Recovery.

• Healing often happens one decision at a time
• Biblical wisdom can provide direction for the road ahead

Your book may not be finished—but don’t overlook the progress you made this week.

Every page written, paragraph revised, idea clarified, and moment spent developing your message moved your book forward. Progress does not always look dramatic. Sometimes it looks like choosing not to give up.

Before the week ends, pause and honor the work you completed.

What writing progress are you proud of this week? Share it in the comments—we’re celebrating with you.

📖 Who was Proverbial Wisdom for Recovery written for?

This devotional is for the person who is taking recovery one day at a time.

It is for the person rebuilding after a setback, developing healthier patterns, or learning how to trust God through the process of change.

It may also be a meaningful resource for:

• Individuals participating in a recovery program
• Families supporting a loved one through recovery
• Sponsors, mentors, and accountability partners
• Recovery ministries and support groups
• Church leaders serving people in difficult seasons
• Anyone beginning again after a life-changing experience

Readers do not have to have everything figured out before they begin.

Through 31 days of Scripture, reflection, practical wisdom, and prayer, Jeffrey Vansant offers encouragement for the next step—not pressure to complete the entire journey at once.

Recovery may be personal, but it does not have to be walked alone.
