Scripture
“Cast out the scoffer, and contention will leave; yes, strife and reproach will cease.”
—Proverbs 22:10

Reflection
The wisdom writer reminds us that scoffing is not harmless—it sows division, stirs up strife, and poisons fellowship. Sadly, scoffers are not only found outside the church; sometimes they arise within. In our day, disagreements over politics or theology can easily turn brothers and sisters into accusers.

But not every disagreement is scoffing. Paul warns us in 1 Corinthians 8:1 that “knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.” When we turn our knowledge into pride, we risk becoming scoffers ourselves, dismissing others as less faithful or less enlightened.

Instead, we are called to model Christlike humility—even in disagreement. That means listening before labeling, seeking unity rather than division, and keeping hard conversations private so the witness of the church remains strong before the world. Scoffing scatters; love gathers.

May we all
• Guard our own spirit against cynicism and pride.
• When disagreement comes, pursue dialogue instead of dismissal.
• Protect the unity of the church by keeping disputes within the fellowship, not on display before the world.

Prayer
Lord, guard my heart from scoffing and pride. Teach me to build up, not tear down. Help me to be a peacemaker in Your church, so that the world may see the unity of Your people and be drawn to Christ. Amen.
